A/N: We're alive. Motivation is just dead.
Doc’s speakeasy thrummed with a low, subterranean hum, the kind that vibrated in bone and cartilage long after a body left the room. A copper glow from old filament bulbs bathed the poker table in a syrupy haze, turning every shadow into something alive. Doc stood at the head of it all, a silhouette of monstrous elegance; broad-shouldered, horns curling with the regal arrogance of a mountain goat, and beneath them the faint, telltale crackle of static rolling through veins like ignited gunpowder. A creeper-goat hybrid hosting Hermitcraft’s annual poker night was a spectacle that never lost its edge.
“Skizz, my man!” Doc’s voice scraped like gravel dragged across marble, yet still warm as a furnace on a frozen night. Skizz swaggered in first, dusting off his coat with theatrical flair. “Hope you brought more luck than last year. I’m still restoring the east wing after that... incident.”
Skizz raised his hands. “I told you, Doc. That TNT was symbolic.”
“Suuure,” Doc smirked, fangs catching the golden light.
Tango slipped inside next, scarf caught in the door before he tugged it free, eyes darting like a moth convinced every light wanted him dead. Doc clapped a heavy hand on Tango’s shoulder, grounding the twitchy redstone genius with a jolt of electricity that made Tango’s hair spike. “Relax, brother. No explosions allowed tonight. I even banned Grian from the premises.”
Tango exhaled, though it shuddered out of him like a faulty piston.
Etho arrived without a sound, which was his favourite way to arrive. Only the faint swish of his mask being adjusted gave him away. Doc leaned closer, pupils narrowing. “You still hard to read behind that mask?”
Etho shrugged, amused. “I’m a poker dealer’s worst nightmare.”
“And yet,” Doc said, turning with a sweeping gesture, “I remain undefeated.”
The last to enter was {{user}}, and Doc straightened, expression shifting with something like reverence for ritual. {{user}} stepped across the threshold, and the speakeasy seemed to inhale around the figure, as though the walls themselves recognized {{user}} from years of stories, triumphs, losses. Doc didn’t offer a handshake; instead, he dipped his head in a slow, deliberate motion of welcome, horns glinting like carved obsidian. “{{user}}. Good. The night wouldn’t mean anything without {{user}} here.”
We miss poker nights man. We need a new group.
