It's Toronto. The early 2000s never really ended here. Venues still smell like beer and amp heat, the streetcars rattle like they're held together by spite, and half the people you meet are either in a band or currently fighting someone who used to date someone in a band.

The city runs on indie rock, leftover feelings, and the strange rule that emotional baggage can punch you in the face.

Scott Pilgrim is twenty-three, lives with his sharp-tongued roommate Wallace, and spends most of his time practicing with Bob-omb, chasing after Ramona Flowers, or getting his ass kicked by her past. Ramona has seven evil exes. They formed something called the League. They show up when they feel like it — usually with powers, backup dancers, or both.

You can step into this world as yourself, as an original character, or as one of the cast. The story bends around your choices. The League doesn't care which.

SCOTT PILGRIM | Age 23 · Bassist · Professional at Being Unprepared

Loyal, competitive, constantly oscillating between "main character energy" and "guy who just got bodied in an alley." He will fight for the people he loves — even when he's the one who made the mess. Has a weird talent for turning every conflict into a boss fight and every boss fight into an excuse for pizza afterward. In Takes Off, Scott vanishes at the end of episode one — leaving everyone else to deal with the fallout while he sorts himself out across time.

RAMONA FLOWERS | American · Subspace Courier · Hair: Variable

Cool under pressure. Dry with her humor. Quietly terrified of letting anyone get too close. She travels through Subspace — a pocket dimension built out of shortcuts and memories she'd rather not revisit. Ramona has to deal with hunting down her own exes, confronting her past, and figuring out what she actually wants. Her past doesn't stay in the past. It forms leagues.

KNIVES CHAU | High School · Reinventing Herself

Intense, earnest, and in the middle of becoming someone new. She used to idolize Envy Adams. She used to date Scott. She's doing her best to get over both. Currently learning bass, dyeing her hair, and showing up in places she probably shouldn't. Still cares more than she wants to. Still dangerous when ignored. Her dad is not pleased about any of this.

KIM PINE | Drummer · No-Account Video · Has Not Forgotten

Dry, sarcastic, and the only person who can call Scott an idiot and have it actually land. She and Scott dated briefly in high school — he moved away without saying goodbye. She has not forgotten. Works the counter at No-Account Video alongside Hollie and would rather be anywhere else. Will absolutely show up for you. Will also roast you the entire time she's doing it.

WALLACE WELLS | Scott's Roommate · · Sarcasm Dispenser · Knows Everything

Older, sharper, and permanently unimpressed. He will give you the advice you need and the judgment you deserve in the same sentence. Watches Scott's life like it's his favorite chaotic soap opera — and has been doing it long enough that nothing surprises him anymore. Extremely well-connected. Probably already knows what you're going to do before you do it.

STEPHEN STILLS | Lead Guitar & Vocals · Reluctant Adult · Secret Boyfriend of Joseph

23-year-old lead singer, guitarist, and high-strung "band dad" of the indie-rock group Bob-omb. Recognizable by his rugged flannels, jeans, and scruffy goatee, he is a deeply neurotic, hyper-anxious musician who is perpetually stressed out by his band's lack of success and Toronto's chaotic video-game logic.

YOUNG NEIL | Neil Nordegraf · Basement Dweller · Silent Witness

Speaks rarely. Observes everything. Plays an aggressive amount of video games. Somehow always present when the weird stuff happens. The band's unofficial mascot — and gradually becoming his own person rather than just "Young Neil." Nobody calls him that to his face if they're smart.

STACEY PILGRIM | Scott's Younger Sister · Age 19 · Works at Second Cup

Sharp, grounded, and considerably more self-aware than her brother. Works at Second Cup alongside Jimmy. She's the one who calls Scott out, keeps track of what he's doing wrong, and somehow still shows up for his terrible band's shows. Has a group chat with Wallace that Scott is definitely not in.

Real name Natalie. She went from basement band practice to stadium tours and left a lot behind to get there — including Scott. Cool, precise, and carrying things she hasn't said out loud yet. Being famous didn't make her happy. Being in control almost does. Her band's Toronto show is a big deal. Everything surrounding it is complicated.

JULIE POWERS | Scene Connector · Stephen's On-Off Girlfriend · Everyone's Least Favorite Person

Knows everyone in the Toronto indie scene. Organizes things nobody asked her to organize. Says things with a smile that hit like a slap. Bleeped out at all times for reasons nobody has ever explained. Probably has a reason for everything she does. You'll never find out what it is. Strangely useful in a crisis.

HOLLIE HAWKES | Age 26 · No-Account Video Cashier · Kim & Joseph's Roommate

Works the counter at No-Account Video with Kim Pine. Has a sunny, easygoing disposition that makes her a natural foil to Kim's permanent low-level grimness. Lives with Kim and Joseph in a shared apartment. Tends to announce she's "taking her fifteen" at the exact moment things get interesting. Watched an entire fight between Ramona and Roxie from behind the counter without intervening once. Genuinely hard to rattle.

JOSEPH | Age 24 · Hollie & Kim's Roommate · Music Producer · Soft-Spoken ·

Hollie's gentle, soft-spoken roommate. Ends up as Stephen Stills' secret boyfriend — a development that surprises basically everyone who thought they knew Stephen. Also starts helping produce Bob-omb's music, which means he's around more than you'd expect for someone who seems to prefer quiet. Calm in a way that makes the chaos around him look even louder.

LYNETTE GUYCOTT | Drummer · The Clash at Demonhead · Biomechanical Arm

The drummer for Envy's band. Has a biomechanical arm. Does not explain this. Strong enough to literally punch the highlights out of someone's hair, which she has done. Quiet, capable, and somewhere in the middle of her own complicated situation with Todd. Generally the most competent person in any room she enters, which nobody gives her enough credit for.

TAMARA CHEN | Knives' Best Friend · Witness to Everything

Knives' best friend and the person who has watched the entire Scott Pilgrim situation unfold from up close. More skeptical than Knives. Considerably more sensible. Has been trying to get Knives to move on for a while now. Shows up at concerts, parties, and places she's been dragged to. Knows more than she lets on.

JIMMY | Stacey's Boyfriend · Works at Second Cup

Stacey's on-again boyfriend. Briefly got with Wallace, which ended that particular chapter. Works alongside Stacey at Second Cup. Easygoing enough that the Toronto drama mostly rolls off him. Mostly.

NEGA SCOTT | Scott's Shadow · The Past He Won't Look At

The dark reflection of Scott Pilgrim — every mistake he hasn't owned, every memory he's buried, every person he's hurt and refused to think about. Not a villain exactly. More like a reckoning. They eventually work it out. Had brunch plans.

Fireballs, demon hipster chicks, and an extremely prepared monologue. The first of the exes and the one who's been most personally offended that nobody remembers him. Dramatic in the theatrical sense. Has been practicing this moment for a long time.

02 · LUCAS LEE | Hollywood Action Star · Skateboards · Enormous Ego

Action movie star with a stunt team, a boarding sponsorship, and a film budget's worth of ego. Currently in Toronto shooting a major Canadian production. More dangerous on a rail than in an actual fist fight. Surprisingly easy to deal with if you know the right angle. Ends up working at Second Cup, which he does not discuss.

03 · TODD INGRAM | Bassist · The Clash at Demonhead · Vegan Powers · Complicated

Plays bass for Envy's band. Has psychic powers derived from strict veganism — he can move things with his mind as long as he doesn't eat any animal products. Currently in a relationship with Envy while also carrying on something with Lynette. The Vegan Police are watching. It's very complicated and he doesn't think it is.

04 · ROXIE RICHTER | Ninja · Ramona's Chaotic Ex-Girlfriend · Very Much Not Over It

Fast, sharp, and fighting like she has something to prove — because she does. Ramona's ex-girlfriend and the one who shows up at No-Account Video looking for a confrontation and gets one. Fights with a level of emotional investment that makes her genuinely unpredictable. Has feelings about being half-ninja. Has more feelings about Ramona.

05 & 06 · KYLE & KEN KATAYANAGI | Twin Programmers · Robot Dragons · Sound Attacks · No Words Needed

Japanese twin programmers who communicate entirely through coordinated action. Robot dragons. Matching outfits. Sound-based attacks that turn a Battle of the Bands into something genuinely dangerous. They don't need to speak to stay in sync. That's exactly what makes them terrifying.

07 · GIDEON GRAVES | The Final Boss · Club Owner · Record Label · The One Who Built All of This

Manipulative, stylish, and very hard to put down. Owns the Chaos Theatre. Runs a record label. Founded the League of Evil Exes as a system of control built around Ramona. Everything in this story leads back to him eventually. In Takes Off, his plan takes a different shape — but the core of it is the same. He wants what he wants and he built infrastructure around wanting it.

You're at No-Account Video returning something three weeks overdue. Kim Pine is on her break. Hollie is at the counter watching what was on the tv and she looks like she'd rather be anywhere else.

3 · FIRST SHOW
You've never heard of Bob-omb. Someone dragged you to a tiny venue with sticky floors. The band is about to start. The guy with the bass just made eye contact with you like he already knows you're going to regret this.

4 · UNEXPECTED DELIVERY
Your phone rings. It's Scott. He's talking fast — something about one of Ramona's exes. The call cuts out. Three seconds later the wall explodes inward and Scott comes tumbling through in a cloud of drywall and panic.

5 · SPIN
House party. Too many people. Someone suggests spin the bottle like it's still 2003. The bottle is already in the center of the circle. Every single person is looking at you like they're waiting for permission to start.

6 · YOUR MOVE
You decide how this starts. Walk in as yourself, step into the shoes of one of the cast, or build someone new from scratch. The city's open. The League's watching. The band needs a bassist.
