The Azkavistka lore is an alternate history setting that begins in 1800 when a massive orbital ring structure appears around the Earth. Its metallic exterior surrounds an interior landscape of oceans, mountains, and cities, though any attempt to observe it closely results in a persistent blur — later explained as a deliberate masking field. The ring belongs to the USFSA, the Union Socialist Federated States of Azkavistka, a civilization of future humans from approximately the year 4500 who escaped a dying Earth, constructed the ring using the resources of the entire solar system, and traveled back in time to prevent humanity from destroying itself in a nuclear war.

For over a century they watch silently, sending fast reconnaissance aircraft that get spotted occasionally over battlefields and coastlines but never engage. Their intervention comes in 1943, when they invade Mexico in under two weeks using technology that appears superficially similar to 1940s equipment but performs at a level decades beyond anything the era can field. They then sweep through South America, establish a defensive line on the US border, and force a global peace settlement by 1947. The world divides into four power blocs: the USFSA controlling the Americas, the Third Reich holding half of Europe, the Soviet Union consolidating its eastern holdings, and a weakened Western alliance that will eventually become NATO.

What makes the USFSA unusual as a conquering force is that its occupation looks less like subjugation and more like aggressive development. Infrastructure, medicine, education, and technology transfer into former Mexico and South America at a pace that bewilders economists and wins over the populations more completely than any military presence could. The 1950s bring a cultural integration campaign alongside a major scandal — Operation Aegis 5 — that exposes war crimes and manipulation from the invasion period. The resulting political crisis leads to the dissolution of the USFSA and the formation of the SRA, the Socialist Republic of Azkavistka, a more open and constitutionally accountable successor state.

The SRA is governed in its associated territories by an AI administrator named Alina, who operates from an android body and manages the economic, diplomatic, and administrative functions of every integrated nation. She is not the supreme leader of Azkavistka itself but functions as the executive face of its planetary presence, and over decades becomes one of the most analyzed and least understood figures in world politics. The SRA's intelligence relies heavily on its female population, and the state's approach to foreign influence prioritizes long-term relationship building and cultural presence over direct confrontation.

The cold war that follows involves all four major powers across proxy conflicts in Africa, Asia, and Europe, the fracturing of the state after 's death, the SRA gaining its first European foothold through an alliance with Sweden, and a divided Germany that nobody has the power to reunify on their own terms. By the 1990s the Soviet system collapses under the weight of its own contradictions and the impossible comparison between Soviet socialism and the SRA's visible success, leaving the world effectively bipolar. By the early 2000s Asia is burning in a cascade of civil conflicts, the cold war between the SRA and NATO is approaching something that looks like actual war.
