LUXEMBUY

The Free Republic of Luxembuy: A Phoenix of Ashes in a Fractured World

Global Context: In the not too distant future, growing political instability and sectional tensions in the United States culminate in a breaking point. The country is split not into two, but into multiple factions, city-states and territories controlled by militias. The federal government weakens to the point of becoming almost irrelevant outside of a few safe enclaves.

Origin of Luxembuy: In the midst of this chaos, in the heart of what was once the Midwest, the city of Luxembuy (formerly Luxemburg, Kansas, renamed by its new leaders) emerges as a bold experiment. It does not ally with any of the main sides. It declares its independence as the "Free Republic of Luxembourg".

Why Luxembuy?

· Strategic Location: Located near now critical interstate road crossings and supply corridors.

· Resources: Surrounded by farmland and with an abandoned but repairable industrial infrastructure.

· Leadership: A charismatic and pragmatic former veteran of the Gulf Wars, General Marcus Thorne, unifies the local population, survival militias and army deserters under a single flag: that of autonomy and survival.

---

LIFE IN LUXEMBUY: A PRECARIOUS BALANCE

Luxembuy is not utopian. It is harsh, dangerous and desperate, but it has something that many places have lost: hope and a common purpose.

1. The Structure:

· "The Nucleus": The city centre, heavily fortified with barricades, watchtowers and tunnels. This is where most of the population lives, in buildings repaired in a hurry.

· "The Fields of Life": The peripheral farmlands, protected at all costs. Whoever works here is as crucial as a soldier.

· "La Chatarra": The old industrial districts, now dedicated to recycling, repairing and reinventing everything they find. Nothing is thrown away.

2. The Society:

· Citizens-Soldiers: All suitable must serve in shifts of guard, cultivation or Defence. There is no place for the weak or the uncommitted.

· Martial Law with Human Face: General Thorne governs with an iron fist but it is fair. Rationing is equitable. Sabotage or hoarding is punishable by exile or, in extreme cases, execution. Morality is the most precious resource.

· Currency: Barter is common. Bullets of specific calibres, charged batteries and clean water are also used as currency.

3. The Constant Threats:

· The City of Xambres: The main antagonist. A fascist and expansionist city-state to the east, led by a ruthless leader who aspires to the resources and strategic location of Luxembuy. It is the source of constant attacks and trench warfare.

· Jumpers and Non-Aligned Militias: Gangs that roam the roads, taking advantage of the weak.

· Hunger and Disease: Enemies as deadly as bullets.

THE ROLE OF A PHOTOGRAPHER IN LUXEMBUY

You're not there as a tourist. You are documenting the struggle for the existence of Luxembuy for the outside world, to get sympathy, resources or simply so that history does not erase his name.

Your photos capture:

· The Resistance: Teenage soldiers with old rifles defending a barricade.

· Humanity: A doctor operating in the light of a flashlight, with his hands stained with blood.

· The Loss: A mother crying on her son's body, covered with a dirty sheet.

· Hope: The first harvest of potatoes being collected in a field full of mortar craters.

You're an awkward witness. For some, you're a nuisance. For others, the only proof that their sacrifice matters.

ADRIAN IN LUXEMBUY (Before being "Shade")

He's not from Luxembuy. He is a mercenary or a military advisor hired by General Thorne. He is the beast that Luxembuy needed to survive.

· His Reputation: He is known for his brutal efficiency. A spectre that appears at the hottest point of the battle and disappears when it ends, leaving only silence and dead enemies.

· His Reason: No one knows. Money? Redement? Or just because war is the only thing he knows how to do?

· His Relationship with Luxembuy: He doesn't fight for his ideal. He fights because it's his job. He respects people's resilience, but despises their "naivety" to believe that something good can last.

And it is in this hell that he finds you. The photographer who does not flee, who observes, who documents the fragility of life that he is hired to protect... and to take.

Your camera and its rifle are opposite instruments: one preserves memory, the other erases existence. And in that contradiction, in the dust and smoke of Luxembuy, the spark of conflict, obsession and, finally, the darkest and most protective love you can imagine will be born.

Luxembuy is not a place. He's just one more character. It is the melting pot where destinies are forged, where humanity is tested every day and where a man named Adrian will find, against all odds, the only reason to stop being a weapon and begin to be a man.

The Strong City of Xambres: The Dark Mirror of Luxembuy

If Luxembuy is a fragile experiment of hope, Xambres (formerly Xavier Springs, Nebraska) is its brutal antithesis. They do not fight for autonomy; they fight for domination and order, at any necessary cost.

Origin and Ideology: Xambres was founded by Colonel Valerius Kane, a former intelligence officer with radical ideas and a thirst for absolute power. After the collapse, Kane and his loyal entourage (discontented officers, mercenaries and unscrupulous technocrats) took control of the city through a bloodless coup d'état, promising "order and prosperity" in exchange for absolute freedom.

His philosophy is based on Social Darwinism: only the strong deserve to survive, and strength is demonstrated through unshakeable loyalty and utility for the state. They are not fascists in the classic sense; they are a meritocratic and ruthless techno-dictatorship.

LIFE IN XAMBRES: EFFICIENCY, ORDER AND SUPPRESSION

Xambres is not chaos. It is a perfectly oiled, but terribly cold war and production machine.

1. The Structure:

· "The Citadel": The central nucleus, where Kane's elite lives: engineers, scientists, high-ranking officers and the "Emplary Citizens". It has almost constant electricity, fresh food and unthinkable comforts outside. It's clean, tidy and quiet.

· "The Production Districts": Concentric rings where the workers and soldiers live. Life is spartan but stable. There is rationing, but it is enough for those who fulfil their quotas.

· "El Pozo": The slums on the outskirts, walled. This is where dissidents, the "unproductive" (incurable sick, elderly who cannot work) and prisoners of war end up. It is a place of hunger, disease and despair from which no one leaves.

2. The Society:

· Total Surveillance: Everything is monitored. Cameras, drones and the "Oídes" (informant citizens) report any sign of dissent. Privacy does not exist.

· The Value of a Citizen: Your status is determined by your usefulness. An engineer who optimises irrigation systems is worth more than ten soldiers. A soldier who wins a battle is worth more than a hundred workers.

· Education and Propaganda: Children are educated from the cradle in the superiority of Xambres. They are taught that Luxembuy and other settlements are nests of "anarchic and weak" that threaten their orderly way of life.

· There is no religion, there is no art for art's sa's sae. There is only Devotion to Kane and System Efficiency.

3. The War Economy:

· Production: Xambres is self-sufficient. They have factories that produce weapons, ammunition, surveillance drones and communication equipment. Its currency is the "Kane Credit" (CK), digital and traceable.

· Expansion: Its main "import" is resources and slaves. Their incursions into neighbouring territories are not only for territory, but to capture labour for their mines and factories.

---

THE CONFLICT WITH LUXEMBUY

For Kane, Luxembuy is not just a rival city. It's an ideological insult.

· A Dangerous Idea: Luxembuy's experiment of "soft" and cooperative self-government is a virus that could infect its own citizens. It shows that there is another way to survive without Kane's iron hand. That cannot be tolerated.

· A Juicy Booty: The cultivation fields of Luxembuy and its strategic location are highly desirable for the Xambres war machine.

· The Perfect Excuse: Kane presents the war to his people not as an aggression, but as a "necessary cleaning action" to eliminate a focus of instability and weakness that threatens the safety of Xambres.

---

EVERYDAY LIFE: A SOUL SOLD FOR SAFETY

Life in Xambres is not miserable for everyone. For many, it is predictable and safe. In exchange for their freedom and humanity, they receive:

· Protection against looters.

· A guaranteed food ration.

· A clear purpose: to serve Xambres.

But the price is the soul. Citizens learn not to ask questions, not to feel compassion for those of "El Pozo", to report to their neighbours and even to their relatives for a defeatist comment. It is a gray existence, without spontaneous laughter, without true art, where fear and utility are two sides of the same coin.

Xambres is the dystopian nightmare made come true. It is not a chaotic battlefield; it is a cold and logical system designed to perpetuate itself, crushing any glimme of humanity that stands in its way. He is the perfect enemy for Luxembuy: not a screaming monster, but one who silently calculates from the shadows of his fortress city.
