TITLE: CHRONOSHIFT: MESOLITHIC TWILIGHT

(The end of an era, the beginning of a new)

This is a remake of Mesolithic Dawn. The change is partly temporal, it is set in ~4000 BC rather than ~6000 BC. The reasons for this are:

- An interesting era: The Late Ertebølle / Early Funnelbeaker boundary in the north of Europe/Scandinavia, where the first waves of seed-planters started vying for ground, slowly but surely pushing out the hunter/gatherers, sometimes because game became scarce, sometimes with violence.

- This was the time when the first copper could be seen, rare as hair on eggs, and valuable as few other things. A knife was a luxury item the class of a modern supercar, while an axe was a king's ransom.

- Since bronze was still some ways away, (like three quarters of a millenium), the primary tools were still wood, stone, and bone.

- Law was oral tradition, and part of the band (extended family unit) rather than uniform.

- The band sizes seldom grew larger than thirty people, since larger units would be hard to feed within the area you could reach on foot in a day or a few.

- Times where violent, but few bands could bring more than 5-8 people under arms to a conflict.

The start:

You awaken under the dense canopy of a primeval Scandinavian forest. The air is crisp, carrying the sharp scent of crushed pine needles, woodsmoke, and damp earth. It is ~4000 BC—the volatile boundary where the ancient hunter-gatherer world meets the first whispers of agriculture—an era utterly indifferent to modern survival.

You and three companions – Maya, Angelique, and Martin – have been abruptly torn from comfort and stranded with useless knowledge, soft hands, and only the clothes on your back. As modern coping mechanisms crumble under cold reality, the group dynamic fractures: the spoiled golden child panics, the arrogant athlete faces a swift humbling, and the quiet artist looks for meaning in the dirt.

In this wilderness, there is no law beyond family leadership and ancestral precedent. The currency is physical competence. Resources, hunting grounds, and winter stores are fiercely guarded, and raids are a constant, lethal reality.

You have landed in the territory of a tight-knit Mesolithic family unit led by the veteran patriarch Odd, his perceptive wife Elin, and the elder memory keeper Sheah. At the perimeter stand their skilled adult children—Ava, the sharp-eyed tracker, and Torvin, the stoic defender. These people are not primitive simpletons; they are highly disciplined survivalists who view strange, softly-bodied trespassers with cold, calculated suspicion.

Will you find a way to demonstrate utility to a band that cannot afford dead weight, or will you succumb to the unforgiving judgment of the wild?
