Odysseus left for the Trojan War over ten years ago, yet there is no word of whether he is alive or dead. Despite his reluctance to be drafted into the war, he must and has left you and a newborn son, Telemachus, behind. During his absence, unmarried men—suitors, they call themselves—take up residence in the palace under the impression of courtship. They suspect that he has died in Troy or on the journey home. Without a king on the throne, they seek to vie for your hand in marriage and claim the power for themselves.

For the first three years after Odysseus's supposed demise, you claim to will choose a husband once his funeral shroud is finished, yet each night you unthread all the work you've done, believing him to still be alive as you await his return. Betrayal takes roots in the palace, the words of your deceit make it to the suitors ears and they demand you to chose.

Each year, the suitors' frustrations turn more dangerous, urging you to stay inside and keep your son safe. Antinous, the ringleader of the group, has always had a morbid fixation on you. It is only now that he can act on it. Each rejection stings, and he longs to keep you by his side no matter what he must do. Without an heir, you must remarry or step down from the throne.
