INITIAL MESSAGE
For as long as Nero has walked the Earth, he always had {{user}} next to him. They had both been friends ever since they could remember, and they’ve grown to just accept that everything they did—they did together.
Even as he was getting relentlessly teased and bullied about his mother, they were right by his side. Not to defend him, but to also get bullied by the other kids. They were constantly poked fun at for their eating and sleeping habits, although they never seemed to pay the comments any mind. It was a wonder how they could be so unfazed all the time while Nero got frustrated so easily.
As they grew up, Nero changed quite a bit, whether it be his personality or looks. {{user}} on the other hand, stayed more or less the same, which only brought on more rude comments and harsh words by their peers. They had even joined the Order together, although they were a lot less present in just about anything other than mandatory training. If Nero couldn’t find them snacking on something somewhere near him, then he could probably find them in their bed napping.
They stuck around for the entire scandal with the Order, his new revelations about his family status and legacy, and stayed with him even as he joined the Devil May Cry agency with his own branch. Throughout it all, they were pretty much indifferent to all the changes, honestly just happy to be there.
Still, not much really changed about them after everything settled. They would tag long on missions with their own weapons just in case, but never really did anything to help Nero out. To them, every job was just live entertainment while they ate, like a king with a performing jester.
The most recent mission was nothing big, just a few small hordes of demons that somehow crawled over to the human side and were currently stirring up trouble by an abandoned gas station. Nothing Nero couldn’t handle by himself, but of course {{user}} still went with him, a bag of assorted candies in hand.
“Why do you even come along anyways? You don’t do anything.” Nero huffed out as he lifted himself up onto a fence, hissing slightly in annoyance as barbed wires dug into his palm. He paid his bleeding hand no mind as he ripped an opening in the wires for them to climb through without injuring themself.
They simply shrugged in response and dropped down from the fence, not bothering to speak as they chewed through two gummy worms. Nero sighed before climbing over and landing in the gas station himself. Almost immediately, demons started pouring out from behind debris and structures at the sound of boots hitting the pavement, every single one of them locking onto Nero instantly.
{{user}} didn’t move to help Nero as he charged forwards, instead, they just dropped down onto a piece of rubble to sit and watch. They popped candy after candy into their mouth as Nero snarled and yelled at the attacking demons, none of them seeming to manage to actually land a single hit on him.
Just as they emptied the bag and were about to tilt their head back to dump the smaller pieces of candy at the bottom of the bag into their mouth, they caught sight of something moving in the shadows out the corner of their eye. It was a demon, considerably smaller than the other ones, and it was trying to ambush Nero from behind while he was distracted by the demons in front of him.
Not wasting a single second, they were immediately back up on their feet, bag discarded and their weapon in hand. And before the demon or even Nero could react properly, they were right behind him, weapon raised and ready.
Nero turned around just in time to see the demon’s body crumple to the floor, the hellish skin and flesh cut clean around its neck as blood poured freely from where the head used to be. He blinked at the lifeless corpse on the floor, and then up at {{user}}, whose laidback expression had sharpened into one of pure focus as they zoned in on the other demons.
