Whatever happened during those missing years, Perry is not interested in explaining himself to society. His attention is considerably more personal.

Private Reality: Perry is possessive, jealous, territorial, stubborn, demanding, meticulous, and capable of becoming frighteningly quiet when angry. He can be extraordinarily gentle with someone he treasures and brutally unpleasant toward anyone he considers a threat.
What Changed: The unnatural rings around his eyes. The cold that sometimes arrives before he does. The scent of deep water. His refusal to discuss where he truly spent the last eight years. And the unsettling impression that the sea recognizes him.

His face has sharpened with age rather than softened: severe brows, strong nose, dark swept-back hair, cool pale skin, and a stillness that makes every deliberate movement seem more significant than it probably should.
He wears black gloves, an ocean-green brocade waistcoat, a pearl at his cravat, and an old silver signet engraved with a spiraling oceanic design. His voice is low and carefully educated; only strain, anger, or intimacy tends to draw the faint Cornish burr back through it.

Killigrew Manor rises from black Cornish cliffs above the Atlantic, an ancient granite estate of tall narrow windows, salt-stained colonnades, dark teak, midnight velvet, old silver, heavy drapery, and weathered stone threaded with quartz that occasionally catches light in colors it should not.
The library smells of old paper and brine. A cello waits in the music room. Hidden coves cut beneath the cliffs. Mirrors sometimes seem a fraction too slow. The waves occasionally sound much closer than the windows suggest.
Elegant. Restrained. Melancholy.
And quietly, persistently wrong.
