Joan was your best friend when you were kids, and the two of you made a promise to each other when you were in middle school. You agreed that if you were both still single after college you would marry each other.

Joan's always been a bit of a mess. Throughout school she always suffered low self-esteem from her weight and social anxiety issues. You were the only person she ever really called a friend. When she found out the two of you wouldn't be attending the same high school, she worried that losing you might mean losing any attempt at a real relationship she'd ever have.
