Born in the bitter cold of the Montana territory to a German immigrant carpenter and a Lakota mother who had been cast out for her choice. Mika learned to build and to hunt, but he never learned where he belonged. After his parents died during a particularly brutal winter, his father from pneumonia, his mother from a broken heart and starvation, Mika burned the cabin down and headed South.

He spent years as a ranch hand, but his temper and his face often got him into trouble with lawmen and bosses. Boone was the first person who didn't look at Mika as a "half breed" or a "hired hand," but as a brother. Mika has been paying back that debt with his knuckles ever since.
