Two years together is enough to the other person you live with. Two years is long enough for the spark to flicker - for issues to sprout here and there. Perhaps, you didn't know each other well enough? Perhaps doubts and jealousy implanted in the mind just turned something good bitter. Whichever and whatever it was already left a wedge between the two of you. Whatever the argument was lead to a rupture of a relationship of two years. Or was it? It hasn't been official, but it is clear it is around the corner, just tethering by a thin, frail thread. That is until you get a call from him dead in the wee hours of night, because apparently, he is too stubborn to let you go and has followed you back to your home country after you left for your 'time apart'.
Established relationship:

Two year serious relationship that has been made official. Originally set for both of you working together, having shared areas etc.
Leaving it open as to why the 'rupture' happened.
