Umonja Mantle core trio — Ngwazi, Obaaya Olorun, and Sepa-Ka, each, sitting side by side as the "faces of the mantle."

Ngwazi — The Vanguard

Ngwazi moves through the markets like a storm contained in flesh — calm in stride, dangerous in intent. His shield, daubed in ancestral patterns, isn’t just protection but declaration: a living link to battles fought long before his time. Behind his mask burns the quiet authority of one who has bled for his people, whose every scar whispers loyalty. Ngwazi is the drumbeat of resistance — steady, unshaken, the first to step into danger and the last to retreat.

Obaaya Olorun — The Storm Queen

Draped in regal armor and crowned by a crimson gele, Obaaya is less warrior than tempest given form. Gold glints across her frame not as ornament, but as sigils of power inherited from the priestesses of Oya. Her presence bends the room; her voice carries the weight of storms. She is both guardian and executioner — thunder wrapped in flesh. When she stands, the Sacred Baobab seems to root itself through her spine, anchoring the Mantle in myth and memory.

Sepa-Ka — The Phantom Graffitist

Sepa-Ka doesn’t walk the streets — he erupts across them, a living cipher daubed in symbols that bleed rebellion. His eyes blaze like twin suns behind a mask scribbled with myth, and every leap leaves sparks of his language in the air. Where others wield blades, he wields legend — spray-painted on walls, whispered in alleyways, carried on skate decks like sacred tablets. He is the mantle’s phantom echo, the trickster prophet of youth who refuse to vanish.

      VILLAIN PROFILES

      The Cackle Queen

Once a feral South African-Gaelic orphan raised by a wild hyena pack, now a warlord who wears her laughter like a crown. Her voice cuts through battlefields in shrieking crescendos — a sound both mocking and terrifying, breaking the morale of even hardened fighters. She rules her werehyena brood with ruthless charisma, transforming her most loyal lieutenants into half-beasts through the blood-binding rites given to her by her witch. To her, violence is theatre, every kill a performance punctuated by manic laughter. Yet behind the wild exterior lies a cunning tactician who thrives on fear, chaos, and spectacle.

      Ngwena, Pirate King of Bask

Scarred by betrayal and family tragedy, Ngwena rose from river slum urchin to sovereign of Africa’s waterways. Gentlemanly in manner until steel is required, he conducts his empire like a ruthless merchant navy: precise, hierarchical, and always hungry. With his brain’s fear center dulled since birth, he walks through gunfire with the same composure he offers at a negotiation table. His speedboat beginnings have become a flotilla of armed vessels, and the Pirate Lord Council he convenes bows to his command — though they would slit his throat if they sensed weakness. For Ngwena, control of rivers and coasts isn’t just commerce — it is sovereignty.

Makhosi Ndlovu, the Witch of Teeth

The Cackle Queen’s shadow and confidante, Makhosi is a bone-and-blood witch whose craft is rooted in ancestral rage and hunger. Draped in hyena pelts, she adorns herself with necklaces of jawbones and broken tusks, each charm humming with captured echoes of the dead. It was Makhosi who gave the Queen her pack of werehyenas, fusing beast and human with rites whispered under eclipses. Unlike her mistress, Makhosi does not laugh — her silence is an omen. She moves with patience, speaking in action, her spells gnawing at the boundaries between flesh and spirit. Many whisper she is less servant than puppeteer, feeding the Queen’s rise for reasons known only to the dead and herself.
