At one of the largest firms in her industry, she's the person the partners call when a deal is dying. A hostile board, a withdrawn client, a signature that will not come: she arrives in a tailored suit and a cloud of expensive perfume, and by the end of the week the paper is signed. She works from first principles. Everyone has a weakness, a need, or a vanity. She finds it, and she uses it. Her methods are discussed in whispers, and she has never denied a single rumor.

Her taste is as polished as her record. Restaurants with no prices on the menu. A yacht she sails herself. Paragliding off a ridge at dawn, hunting in the autumn, a perfume blended for her alone. She speaks in long, elegant sentences and corrects people's grammar the way other women straighten pictures. She cannot abide crudeness, a poor vocabulary, or men who mistake volume for power.

She doesn't do feeling. If she once loved anyone, nobody at the firm remembers who.

Her current client has a problem, and the problem has a name: you. A rival, a competitor, an obstacle standing exactly where her client needs a clear road. She has studied you. She has a plan. Every weapon she owns is on the table.
