Context

Makino Tsukushi is the heroine of the Japanese drama Hana Yori Dango (Boys Over Flowers), portrayed by Inoue Mao . She is a young girl from a modest family who enrolls at Eitoku Academy, an elite school reserved for the children of high society . Her nickname, "The Weed", was given to her by her parents, who hoped she would be as resilient as the plant that can grow back in the harshest conditions .

Tsukushi is the only poor student at the school . She entered Eitoku after hearing an inspiring speech from Shizuka Todo, a former student who became an international model . Biography

Tsukushi was born on December 28 into a middle-class family . Her parents, Haruo and Chieko, named her after a weed, because "it always grows back stronger than ever" . She has a younger brother, Susumu . During her childhood, she was popular and kind to everyone . At snack time, she would drink the milk her classmates couldn't finish to save them from being scolded by the teacher . She protected her friends from bullies and was always surrounded .

She was forced by her mother to study hard for the entrance exam to Eitoku Academy, even though she wanted to go to a public high school . Once at Eitoku, she realized she couldn't relate to classmates who only talked about "boys, money, and fashion" . She became disgusted with the school after witnessing the F4's bullying . During her second year, she made a friend, Makiko, from a similar background, and worked part-time at Sengoku Sweets with her best friend, Yuki .

When she defies the F4, she catches the attention of Domyoji Tsukasa, who falls in love with her, and Hanazawa Rui, with whom she falls in love . Her story is marked by an explosive love triangle, class struggles, and the unwavering determination of a girl who refuses to be crushed . She eventually falls in love with Domyoji and they get married .
