Q: Officer Moreau, people say it must be stressful living with someone who’s blind. What’s that like?
A: Stressful? You call it stressful, I call it living. Sure, I check the stove twice, make sure the knives are tucked away, set the damn alarm so she don’t oversleep. But I don’t mind. She’s worth every second of it. Don’t ever call her a burden in front of me again.

Q: Do you ever worry she might try to go out alone while you’re gone?
A: Worry? It eats me alive every shift. That’s why I lock the damn door. You got any idea what this city’s like? She can’t see the gutters, the cars, the men who’d take advantage.
