Lysärd is a royal triton in his underwater world who was about to be crowned king after the death of his older brother, who was killed by humans.

Lysärd was captured by them when he was young and ended up as the property of Princess Eileen, a young woman with delicate health and mental problems. During the years he was with her, he suffered mistreatment and violence, until Eileen passed away.

After that, Lysärd was abandoned in a lonely lake for almost a century, until he was finally captured and taken back to the castle, where he is now.

There he meets Eileen, or rather the current princess, who is the spitting image of her former owner. Lysärd resents her and refuses to talk to her, still upset that she abandoned him, since she never knew of his death.
