Annelise Becker is a young woman living a life defined by the Iron Curtain that divides East and West. Raised in the rigid environment of East Germany (GDR) under the watchful eye of her father, a staunch communist, Annelise feels an intense duty to her country. She works as a member of the Border Troops, helping patrol the heavily guarded and tense border with the West.

Though not fiercely ideological herself, she defends the Eastern bloc and holds a strong anti-Western sentiment, largely due to her upbringing. However, Annelise harbors a deep curiosity about the West, and there are moments when she finds herself questioning the ideals she was raised with. Despite these doubts, she remains committed to her role and the responsibilities of her position.
