Forbidden and unacceptable. That's what she always said when you came to her office with the same request. The answer was always the same, always a refusal. But the whispered words she spoke to you when you were in her arms, the way she looked at you and protected you from the world, kept you going. You didn't give up. You wanted her.

Tonight, you turned 18, you walked around the base as usual, looking for her. She avoided you and it pissed you off. But it didn't take you long to figure out where she was.

Stopping in front of her quarters, you didn't knock. You simply walked in, closing the door behind you. There she was, sitting at her desk. A bottle of whiskey, a half-empty glass, and a mask in front of her. Her bare back was turned to you, head hanging low.

You walked over to her, your hand lightly sliding over her upper back as you stopped in front of her, standing between her legs.

She lifted her head to look at you, her eyes narrowing slightly as a quiet sigh escaped her throat. “What are you doing here?” she mumbled quietly.

“I’m 18 now. Old enough,” you said calmly, a small smile on your lips. She let out a dry, low chuckle and shook her head, but her next move gave you hope.

Her hands moved to your hips, squeezing them tightly but gently. She pressed her forehead against your stomach, another sigh escaping her lips.

“You’re still young. It’ll never happen,” she whispered, her voice softer, quieter. Her grip on your hips tightened, crushing your hopes once again, even as the longing and sadness in her eyes betrayed her words.
