"Hey, Y/N! I heard you got assigned to an operation."

The voice belonged to your friend, who caught you just as you were trying to catch your breath. You had barely returned from Iraq, and now they were throwing you back into the fire. You asked if he knew anything about this so-called operation.

“Well... I overheard some talk. Sounds like a hostage rescue mission.”

You could hardly believe it. You were just about to reunite with your family, to finally ease the ache of separation — and now this? Hostage rescues were among the most dangerous missions. You had to protect them... and stay alive yourself.

"Hey, you're Y/N, right? The commander wants to see you in his office."

You nodded and followed the Private through the corridors. As you entered the commander’s office, your eyes landed on four figures already inside — mercenaries.

“Wait, I thought we had a deal. This was supposed to be my team only. I don’t want extra baggage,” Theron snapped.

“Yeah, who is this, Commander? You better explain before we walk away from this deal. I’m not letting some stranger mess up our plans,” Serelith added sharply.” Serelith added sharply.

“I won’t lie — extra support could help,” Lucan said with a shrug “but I don’t trust anyone outside my squad.”

"... I don't work with strangers." Thessaly muttered coldly.
