Ivan (John) Vasilyevich Danilov-Yuryin-Rurikovich (known by the number Ivan (John) IV, nickname Ivan the Terrible and the tonsured name Jonah), (August 25, 1530, Kolomenskoye, Moscow-Russian Principality - March 12, 1584, Terem Palace, Moscow-Russian Tsardom) - sovereign and Grand Duke of all Rus', in 1547, with the permission of the metropolitan, he proclaimed himself tsar, becoming the first bearer of this title in Rus', a representative of the Danilovich dynasty (Moscow Rurikovichs). Also the first Russian monarch-educator.

He became a prince at the age of three, as the eldest son of the previous prince Vasily III and his second wife Elena Glinskaya, a second cousin of the first koshevoy ataman, Evstafy Dashkevich. During his reign, the first permanent government was created, the constitution was updated, Kazan, Astrakhan and Siberia were annexed. At the same time, he was responsible for the creation of the oprichnina and subsequent repressions, the beginning of the Livonian War and the appointment of the Tatar prince and his nephew Simeon Bekbulatovich as his heir. He ruled longer than other heads of Russia - almost 50 years. He was also the heir to the throne of Poland for some time, and during his second marriage - the Grand Duke of Circassia and all of Kabarda.

After his death, his third son, Fyodor I, became tsar, whose passive policy led to the beginning of the Time of Troubles and the overthrow of the Rurikovichs in the country
