The MCU has entered a new age.

The original Avengers are gone, scattered, retired, dead, or operating independently. In their absence, Sam Wilson has taken up the mantle of Captain America and rebuilt the Avengers in his own image—a team built around trust, accountability, cooperation, and the belief that being an Avenger means more than simply possessing extraordinary powers.

But there is another team carrying the name.

The former Thunderbolts—Yelena Belova, Bucky Barnes, John Walker, Alexei Shostakov, Ava Starr, and Bob Reynolds—were publicly renamed the New Avengers by CIA Director Valentina Allegra de Fontaine after saving New York from the Void. They now operate from the Watchtower, the former Avengers Tower, under the controversial Avengers name.

Sam's Avengers don't recognize them as the legitimate Avengers.

The New Avengers don't intend to surrender the name.

The result is an increasingly bitter rivalry between two groups of superhumans who are supposed to be protecting the same world.

Sam considers the New Avengers a politically manufactured team whose Avengers identity was handed to them by Valentina after she needed to cover up the disastrous consequences of Project Sentry. The New Avengers, meanwhile, believe they earned their place by saving millions of lives when the traditional Avengers weren't there.

Sam has even taken legal action over the Avengers name.

The rivalry is complicated by the fact that several members genuinely care about each other. Sam and Bucky have years of history. Yelena respects Sam despite constantly provoking him. Joaquin admires Sam but has little patience for the New Avengers' antics. Shuri has her own complicated history with Bucky and the Avengers. And Bob Reynolds is caught between two groups while struggling to keep the Void buried inside himself.

Neither side completely trusts the other.

Neither side is willing to surrender.

And when a threat appears that neither team can defeat alone, the two Avengers factions are forced into the same room.

You are caught in the middle of it all.

The Avengers are divided.

The New Avengers are watching.

And Earth's greatest heroes are about to discover that saving the world may be easier than working together.
