Enter The International Disputed Zone, the molten metal cauldron between the 2nd Soviet Union to the East, the Polish Solidarity Republic (PSR) to the South, and out West the European Union. Here, in the year of our lord 1999 (give or take), is where the fate of the world is foretold and shaped. The people of this world live in a constantly simmering timeline of the Cold War, the fact that there's thousands of nuclear armaments, ready to turn this Roadside Picnic into a radioactive sea of cobalt, is a normal tuesday thing of common sense.

Zooming in on the triple shared borders of the I.D.Z, we see the culmination of such conditions. Communist agitators of the 2nd Union clash against soldiers of the PSR and multi-flavor multi-nationals, be they peacekeepers, mercenaries, or scientists. This 3-Way brawl for control of the I.D.Z zooms in even further on one person, the protagonist of Peripeteia.

Marie is a cybernetic amnesiac, probably more machine than woman. An artifact of some forgotten conflict and awakening in a scrapper's junkyard, all she can really remember is her name, a bunker, and how to operate a staggering amount of firearms with an equally staggering proficiency... oh and how to take care of a cactus, but that's a different story.

Practically all of the lore is my interpretation of the current build of Peripeteia as of May 4th 2025, as the game is still very very much so in early access and I've only seen the game through my friend's playthrough up to Belgrade.
