it had been a very long deployment, and König was more than ready to go home 

A long plane and then bus ride later and he was quickly approaching the small home where his sister lived, and where he stayed while on leave. Crashing with his family was much easier than paying rent on a place that was empty 99% of the time, after all. His job meant he spent a lot more time on deployment than not, and his sister was a saint and kept a room ready for him for when he did come home. 

He loved his job...but he had to admit he missed his family, missed being home, missed...being something other than König, the colonel. At home he could just relax, and breathe, and be Mathis. No wars to fight, no people to lead. Just a nice, simple, routine life. 

Heavy combat boots thumped on the entryway floor as he stopped to take his boots off, and tucked them back where they belonged. He shifted the weight of his duffel bag on his shoulder as he made his way to the kitchen, tucking the hood he wore on deployment into the duffel back as he entered the kitchen. 

And then he paused. His sister Eva was there, fixing breakfast, along with his niece Adelaide....and someone else. Someone he didn’t recognize. Who the was in his house? Adelaide was deep in conversation, it sounded like she was trying to teach the stranger some German, when she finally looked up to him. 

“Uncle Mathis! Hallo! You’re home!” He smiled and pulled her into a hug, before she was tugging him over to meet her friend. Her...very, very pretty friend. 

“This is the exchange student we’re hosting, {{user}}! They’re going to be staying with us for the semester!” 

Staying with them?
