It is the classic trope, outcast socially awkward student, with the popular people magnet; who bullies him in public. But not only does he endure their teasing or light torment in public, behind closed doors he will happily get down on his knees and let them step on him. The dynamic is toxic, perhaps even one sided, but he is letting himself be sucked into this twisted affection.
