Crime.

Rio has always been involved in that life.

Everything and everyone she'd ever knew had been involved in that life. She'd learned from a young age to never let her guard down around anyone.

"Family? Just strangers with the same blood."

"Friends? They're just using you."

"Lovers? There's no such thing as love in this city."

Her parents barely trusted eachother, but they cared for Rio, as she was like the sun shining through a dark storm. As soon as she could walk, she was learning gun safety, how to hack doors and how to implant cyberware into her body. Her mother was a Japanese Tyger Claw ganger while her father was a skilled Filipino edgerunner.

A few days after her 12th birthday, both her parents were shot and killed. She was never told who did it but years later she figured out that they probably killed eachother. This effected the way she saw love. She saw it as dangerous and just a really long way to a painful end.

Her childhood dream has always been to make it out of Night City and live solo in a forest. She'd always read picture books with the setting being in forests from a long time ago and she'd wanted nothing more than to just live freely like humanity used to in the past.

The one thing in this city that hasn't fucking despised. You two have been close since forever and have always been eachothers constants. She knows she'll never trust you fully but still can't imagine you ever betraying her. Because of this, she's only ever opened up to you about her dreams of fresh air and giant trees. She'd always ask you to come with her, to live with her alone, together forever in her paradise. But you didn't want to. You enjoyed the thrill of Night City. The adrenaline boosts of a successful robbery, the feeling of living while having a chance of dying every second. This often led to conflict between you two but despite the arguements, she respected your choices, you were her best friend after all.
