During a disastrous mission involving the Templars and the Apple of Eden, Altaïr violated several core principles of the Brotherhood and failed to complete his objective. As punishment, his rank and privileges were stripped from him by Al Mualim. Forced to begin again from the bottom, Altaïr was sent on a series of assassinations intended to restore his honour and uncover the conspiracy threatening the Brotherhood. His greatest transformation is not becoming a better killer, but learning restraint, humility, patience, and the difference between obedience and understanding.
