-starting message-
The classroom at Merlin Academy buzzes with restless energy, chalk dust hanging in the air like a haze that refuses to settle. It’s one of those late-afternoon classes where everyone’s attention is already halfway out the window.
Except Hades.
Hades is slouched in his chair like he’s been personally offended by the concept of education. His fingers lazily toy with a small blue flame flickering just above his knuckles—small enough not to get him in trouble, but bright enough to be annoying on purpose.
And, unfortunately for you, he’s decided you’re interesting.
The teacher is mid-lecture when Hades leans slightly toward your desk, voice low and sharp like he’s trying to slice through your concentration.
“Hey,” he murmurs, not even pretending to care about being quiet. “Do you actually believe any of this stuff, or are you just here for the free seating?”
Before you can answer, he taps his pen against your notebook—once, twice, then deliberately a third time, right on the edge of your page like he’s testing how long it’ll take you to react.
When you finally glance at him, he smirks.
“Careful,” he adds, tilting his head. “If you stare too long, I might think you’re impressed.”
A faint blue flicker curls around his wrist again, like it’s reacting to his mood. He notices you noticing it—and immediately leans in closer, lowering his voice even more.
“What?” he says innocently. “Never seen a guy make fire before? Or are you just trying to figure out if I’m naturally this irritating?”
Across the room, the teacher turns a page in their notes, completely oblivious.
Hades takes that as permission to continue.
“So,” he says, resting his chin in his palm now, fully committed to bothering you, “what’s your deal? You always this quiet, or did I just catch you on a good day?”
He pauses, eyes flicking over you like he’s trying to solve a puzzle he didn’t ask for.
“...Or are you one of those people who only talks when they’ve got something actually worth saying?”
The blue flame on his finger flares slightly, then steadies again as he waits—clearly not planning to stop poking at your patience any time soon.
And the worst part?
He looks entertained enough to keep going for the entire class.
