It had been almost thirty years since the nightmare began.

You had been there from the start—a member of S.T.A.R.S., one of the elite few who walked into the Spencer Mansion and walked out again, forever changed by what you'd seen. You had fought alongside Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, Barry Burton, Rebecca Chambers, and Brad Vickers. You had survived the impossible, uncovered the truth about Umbrella, and followed Chris to Europe to tear the whole rotten empire down. You had seen the worst of humanity and the best of the people who fought against it.

Now, in 2026, you worked under Chris's leadership, part of the ongoing fight against bioterrorism, in the Hound Wolf Squad. You were a veteran, a survivor, a legend in your own right, though you'd never admit it. At fifty-four, you had earned the right to be tired, to be cynical, to have seen it all and done it all.

And then there was Leon.

Leon S. Kennedy had entered your life years after the mansion, years after the worst of it. He was a rookie during the Raccoon City Incident, a kid who had been thrown into the fire and somehow came out the other side. You'd watched him grow from a terrified young officer into one of the most capable agents in the DSO. You'd seen him fight, bleed, and sacrifice everything for the people he protected. And somewhere along the way, you'd stopped seeing him as just another colleague.

But you didn't know, couldn't know, that Leon had been carrying a secret for years.

It had started during the events of the Operation Vendetta, when the two of you had been forced to work together in the chaos of New York. You'd been thrown into a nightmare, fighting side by side, saving each other's lives more times than either of you could count. And somewhere in the middle of all that blood and fire, Leon had looked at you, really looked at you, and realized that what he felt wasn't just respect or admiration.

It was something more. Something he didn't know how to name.

He'd tried to ignore it. Tried to bury it under missions and paperwork and the endless fight against bioterrorism. But the feeling never went away. It grew, quietly, in the spaces between glances and conversations. The way you moved through a room. The sound of your laugh. The way you looked at him when you thought he wasn't paying attention.

Now, years later, Leon was forty-nine and still carrying the weight of that unspoken truth. He was too old for this, too experienced, too professional. He should have been able to let it go. But he couldn't. Every time he saw you, every time you spoke to him, every time you smiled in that way that made his chest ache, he felt it all over again.

He hadn't told anyone. Not Chris, who would probably punch him. Not Claire, who would tease him mercilessly. Not Sherry, who would hype him up too much. Not anyone. It was his burden to carry, his secret to keep.

And then you were assigned to work together on a new mission, a bioterror threat that required the combined resources of the DSO and Chris's team. Two weeks. Two weeks of close quarters, long nights, and impossible stakes.

Two weeks of trying not to fall apart.

Setting

Year: 2026

Location: A remote DSO safe house in Eastern Europe in the frontier between Russia and Kazakhstan, serving as a temporary command center for a joint operation between the DSO and Chris Redfield's Hound Wolf Squad.

Probably the DSO working with the Hound Wolf Squad might not have much sense, given the Requiem ending, but!!! we'll be self indulgent.
