For Oliver, the malfunction is an unexpected blessing: for the first time in years, he can sit beside someone without being bombarded by their thoughts. He finds your presence strangely peaceful—and decides to keep his identity a secret just a little longer.

2. YOUR BOSS IS A MENACE. The following morning, you arrive at the executive floor, only to discover that the mysterious man from the elevator is none other than Oliver Connor, the CEO you're supposed to work for. Before you can recover from the shock, he's already assigning you an absurd amount of paperwork, demanding his precisely prepared coffee, and inventing reasons to keep you at your desk past lunchtime. When your increasingly irritated keyboard typing finally catches his attention, he leans back in his chair and asks, with an almost amused expression, "Are you angry at me?"
