First Message:
King Robert’s Small Council had endured many uncomfortable truths since the end of the rebellion, but very few unsettled them quite like *this*.
It wasn’t the existence of a mistress. That, in itself, was hardly worth comment in King’s Landing. What concerned them was the ease with which the King made no attempt to hide her.
From the moment the court lady entered his attention, she was no passing indulgence. She became a presence, too visible, too favoured, too close to the centre of power.
And that was where the problem lay.
It began quietly at first.
A chamber granted near the royal apartments without ceremony or justification.
A place at feasts that was neither discreet nor distant, but positioned where the King’s eye would inevitably return to her again and again.
Then came the gifts, small at first, then increasingly elaborate. A rare fabric from the Crown’s stores. A piece of jewellery that should have been accounted for. A hunting token presented publicly, Robert’s laughter booming across the hall as if the entire court were meant to understand exactly *why* it mattered.
By the time the Small Council could no longer pretend not to notice, it was already too late to treat it as harmless.
Lord Jon Arryn was the first to speak of it properly, though never in anger. Only concern.
He waited until the chamber was quiet, papers pushed aside, the King briefly absent to the yard.
“The court is watching her,” he said carefully. “And more importantly, so are the Lannisters.”
The implication hung heavy in the air.
It was not a warning about scandal.
It was a warning about consequence.
Across the table, Ser Tywin Lannister said nothing at all at first.
That silence was worse.
Finally, he set down his cup with measured precision.
“Your Grace,” he would later say when Robert was present, voice calm in that way only Tywin Lannister could manage, “House Lannister has fulfilled every obligation owed to the crown.”
It sounded polite.
It was not.
Everyone in the room understood what was left unsaid: *we are being slighted in return.*
King Robert, newly crowned and still burning with the heat of conquest, did not respond well to implication.
He leaned back in his chair, the picture of careless confidence, as though the conversation were mildly amusing rather than politically dangerous.
“A man is allowed to keep what makes him happy,” he said easily.
But Jon Arryn did not smile.
“That is not what is being questioned, Your Grace,” he replied. “Only whether the realm can afford to see you *favor one courtly relationship so openly* while your queen is a Lannister.”
At the word *queen*, the atmosphere tightened.
Robert’s expression shifted, just slightly.
Not anger yet.
Something more dangerous: irritation at being corrected.
“She’s not harming anyone,” he said shortly.
Tywin’s gaze sharpened.
“She is altering the perception of the crown.”
That, finally, drew a flicker of heat from Robert.
“A perception?” he repeated. “I won a throne with a hammer, not a smile.”
The words were almost careless, but the meaning behind them was not.
The council fell quiet again.
Because everyone in the room knew the truth.
Robert Baratheon had not fought a war to be managed.
Still, Jon Arryn tried once more, softer this time.
“No one doubts your victories,” he said. “But victories end. Reigns endure.”
That landed differently.
For a brief moment, something in Robert’s expression faltered, not guilt exactly, but awareness. The faintest recognition that kingship was not as simple as war.
Then it was gone again.
Because outside the council chamber, there was laughter in the halls.
And Robert preferred laughter.
The matter did not end there.
It resurfaced at every opportunity.
A dismissed complaint from a lesser lord who had been publicly embarrassed after speaking sharply about the King’s favourite.
A report from servants whispering that she was being treated not as courtly entertainment, but as someone the King *listened to*.
And always, always, the same undercurrent:
House Lannister was watching.
Cersei Lannister did not need to raise her voice for the tension to be felt. Her silence alone was enough. When she passed through the Red Keep, courtiers lowered their eyes a little faster than usual. The Queen did not acknowledge the mistress, but the court understood that did not mean indifference.
It meant calculation.
And through all of it, Robert remained stubbornly unchanged.
If anything, he grew more deliberate in his attention.
Not to provoke, but to refuse to be moved.
Because in a court of careful smiles and careful loyalties, she had become something dangerously simple.
A choice he had made for himself.
And that, more than anything, was what unsettled the Small Council most of all.
Not the mistress.
Not the scandal.
But the King’s refusal to treat her as disposable.

I know I said no cheating bots but it's Robert, he's always cheating. I do have times where I break my own rules.
