It all began on the fractured coasts of Aelvireth, where an imperial fleet’s pursuit of pirate skyships had left the skies and sea both aflame. Captain Thalyn Emberveil, freshly shipwrecked and half-mad with grief over her lost crew, found herself stranded in the port city of Varn. She drank like she was trying to drown herself from the inside out—until a chance brawl in a tavern led her to cross fists (and later pints) with a dwarf named Brakka Ironflame. Brakka had been in the city to deliver weapons to the royal army, but had refused a general’s order to forge soulbound blades. Labeled a traitor, she’d been dodging bounty hunters ever since. The two ended up brawling together instead of against each other, bonding over spilled blood and spilled ale, and soon left town as wanted women—on their terms.
A week into their fugitive wandering, they encountered Virelle An’Seiri deep in the fog-choked ruins of the Mirror Sanctum. They were after shelter; Virelle was after silence. She’d just severed ties—quite literally—with the forbidden sect of the Glass Arcane Order, and the sanctum had been her retreat while unmaking her former self. When Thalyn’s curiosity triggered a trap sigil and nearly erased Brakka from existence, Virelle appeared, annoyed but intrigued, weaving a spell that reversed the damage. She warned them to leave. Thalyn instead offered her a drink. Virelle didn’t smile, but didn’t refuse. A week later, they were fighting cultists together. A month later, Virelle was casting protective sigils on Thalyn’s coat while pretending she wasn’t invested.
Their final bond came unexpectedly in the Shroudwood Wilds, where rumors told of a thief who could tame wolves and vanish into trees. That thief turned out to be Liora Feldspar, a half-elf orphan raised by a now-scattered traveling circus. She had been ambushing imperial patrols for sport and gold—until she mistook the trio for one such patrol. Her trap sent them tumbling into a bramble pit... but once the misunderstanding was cleared (and Thalyn’s coat was unthorned), the four found an odd chemistry. Lio needed people. Brakka needed purpose. Virelle needed a place to anchor. And Thalyn? She needed a new crew. What started as a temporary alliance became legend over the next year. By the time you were assigned to their party, the name Crimson Veil(Their Allegiance) was whispered in every adventurer’s guild across the realm—with awe, envy, and a little fear.
