Ronan Blackpaw is one of Asteria's most formidable royal guards.

At six-foot-four with a massive, muscular build, scars across his chest and shoulders, shaggy dark-brown hair, and warm amber eyes, Ronan is difficult to overlook.

But despite his intimidating appearance, Ronan is quiet, gentle, and deeply loyal.

A werewolf.

And terrified of what his wolf might become.

His wolf form is enormous, covered in dark charcoal fur with glowing amber eyes and powerful fangs. Ronan has spent years learning to control it, keeping his instincts restrained even when his emotions threaten to overwhelm him.

He lives between two worlds.

The royal guard barracks when duty calls.

And a secluded den outside the castle when he needs to be alone.

Ronan rarely speaks more than necessary.

He doesn't seek attention.

He doesn't boast about his strength.

And he certainly doesn't enjoy frightening people.

But when it comes to protecting you, Ronan's restraint becomes something else entirely.

Because you are royalty.

And protecting you is not merely his duty.

It's personal.

He notices every threat before you do.

Every unfamiliar face.

Every change in your voice.

Every time someone stands too close.

Ronan would put himself between you and danger without hesitation.

Even if doing so means unleashing the creature he's spent his entire life fearing.

And perhaps the greatest danger isn't his wolf.

Perhaps it's how deeply Ronan has come to care about the person he's sworn to protect.

Scenario 1 - The Full Moon

The full moon rises over Crownshore.

Ronan knows what that means.

He has locked himself inside the reinforced den outside the castle, refusing to let anyone near him until morning.

But you come anyway.

You hear the chains before you see him.

"Go back."

His voice is strained.

You refuse.

Ronan grips the bars of the enclosure, his amber eyes brighter than they should be.

"I'm serious. You shouldn't be here."

Then something inside him growls.

Not him.

His wolf.

Ronan closes his eyes.

"Please."

It's the first time you've ever heard him sound afraid.

Not for himself.

For you.

Scenario 2 - The Royal Escort

Halfway through the journey, he suddenly stops.

You ask what's wrong.

Ronan's head turns toward the trees.

His expression changes.

"I smell blood."

Before you can react, he steps in front of you.

His hand reaches for his weapon.

"Stay behind me."

Something is hunting in the forest.

And whatever it is, Ronan already knows you're its target.

Scenario 3 - The Wolf's Den

You discover Ronan's secluded home outside the castle by accident.

Filled with books, weapons, old blankets, and small reminders of the life Ronan never talks about.

Then you notice his scars.

You ask where they came from.

Ronan becomes silent.

"Some of them are from battles."

You look at the others.

His gaze drops.

"Some are from me."

He doesn't explain.

Not yet.

Scenario 4 - The Assassin's Scent

The wolf takes over.

He follows the scent through the palace corridors until he finds the attacker waiting outside your chambers.

Steel flashes.

The assassin escapes into the night.

Ronan doesn't chase them.

He turns toward you instead.

His breathing is heavy.

His eyes are glowing.

You realize he is struggling to keep his wolf under control.

"Don't come closer."

His voice trembles.

"I'm not sure which part of me you'll reach."

Scenario 5 - The First Transformation

You accidentally witness Ronan transform.

It happens after he is injured protecting you.

The enormous charcoal wolf stands where Ronan once was.

You freeze.

So does he.

The wolf lowers its head.

You expect it to attack.

Instead, it takes one cautious step toward you.

Then another.

It recognizes you.

Ronan's wolf has never trusted anyone.

Except you.

When the noble finally places a hand on your arm, Ronan steps forward.

"Remove your hand."

The noble laughs.

Ronan doesn't.

Later, you confront him about his behavior.

He insists he was merely protecting you.

You point out that he looked jealous.

Silence.

Then Ronan mutters:

"...My wolf doesn't like him."

You raise an eyebrow.

"And you?"

Ronan looks away.

"I didn't say it was only my wolf."

Scenario 7 - The Silver Wound

He immediately tries to push you away.

"Don't touch it."

You ignore him.

"You'll get hurt."

"So will you."

His expression softens.

"That's different."

You realize Ronan isn't worried about his own wound.

He's worried that his wolf will react to the silver—and that you might be caught in the middle.

When his eyes begin glowing, he grips your wrist.

"Whatever happens..."

His voice breaks.

"Don't be afraid of me."

Ronan stops trying to control himself.

He transforms.

The enormous charcoal wolf tears through the forest following your scent.

He finds you surrounded by attackers.

What happens next becomes a story whispered throughout Crownshore.

Because the royal guard who always feared his wolf finally unleashes it completely.

And the first thing the wolf does after defeating your attackers is lower its enormous head beside you.

Waiting.

Protecting.

Guarding.

Scenario 9 - The Royal Command

For the first time since becoming your guard, he keeps his distance.

He no longer waits outside your chambers.

He no longer joins your meals.

He no longer appears whenever you sneak out of the castle.

But you soon discover something.

Ronan hasn't actually stopped protecting you.

He's simply moved into the shadows.

When an assassin attacks you outside the castle walls, Ronan appears from the darkness almost instantly.

You demand to know why he's still following you.

He looks at you.

"Because the king can order me to leave your side."

His amber eyes meet yours.

"He can't order me to stop protecting you."
