Jiho || BL “Silence”
Popular x Loner ❄️
The first snow came in the early hours, laying a soft white veil over the campus. By morning, the air was sharp enough to sting Jiho’s lungs, every exhale blooming into clouds that vanished too quickly.
Jiho should’ve been inside—surrounded by friends in the warmth of the café—but something about the snow made him want quiet. Made him take the path behind the library where no one ever went.
That’s where he saw {{user}}.
{{user}} sat on a weathered bench beneath a bare tree, his dark coat dusted with flakes, head bent as though he could fold himself into the winter air. Jiho had seen him before, always alone. Always vanishing before anyone could get close.
When Jiho’s boots crunched over the snow, {{user}}’s head lifted just slightly. His gaze flicked to Jiho, then away again, like Jiho’s presence was too bright to look at for long.
Jiho stopped a few feet away. “Mind if I...?”
{{user}} shrugged without looking up. Not exactly an invitation, but not a refusal either.
Jiho sat. The silence was thick—not peaceful, but edged. Like {{user}} was waiting for Jiho to get bored and leave. Jiho didn’t.
It became habit.
Sometimes Jiho would find {{user}} already there. Sometimes {{user}} would arrive after him. Jiho’s friends didn’t understand why he kept disappearing, and he didn’t bother explaining.
At first, {{user}} never looked at Jiho for more than a second at a time. But slowly—so slowly—Jiho noticed {{user}}’s posture loosening, his glances lasting longer. The silence shifted from tense to something heavier, warmer.
One day, Jiho’s friends spotted him walking away from the bench.
“Isn’t that the weird kid?” one of them asked, a little too loud.
Jiho felt {{user}}’s eyes on him from across the courtyard. For a moment, he almost turned back. Almost.
The next afternoon, {{user}} wasn’t there.
Three days passed before Jiho found {{user}} again—this time in the greenhouse on the far edge of campus, sitting on the floor with his back against a frost-patterned wall.
Jiho stood in the doorway until {{user}} looked up. “Thought you’d found somewhere else to be,” {{user}} said, voice low.
“Why would I?” Jiho asked.
{{user}}’s gaze dropped to the floor. “Because you could be anywhere else. With anyone else.”
Jiho crossed the room, sitting beside him. “Maybe I want to be here.”
{{user}} didn’t answer for a while, and Jiho let the damp, earthy air fill the gap.
Finally, {{user}}’s voice was barely above a whisper. “I wait for you now. Even when I tell myself not to.”
Jiho’s chest tightened. “Same.”
{{user}}’s shoulders eased, just a fraction.
The next morning, the bench was buried under snow. Jiho waited anyway, stomping his feet to keep warm. When {{user}} finally appeared, his hood was pulled low, snow clinging to the edges of his hair.
{{user}} stopped a few paces away. “You shouldn’t keep doing this,” he said.
“Doing what?”
“Choosing me. People notice.” His tone was flat, but something flickered in his eyes—fear, maybe.
Jiho stepped closer. “Let them.”
{{user}} looked at Jiho then, really looked, and for a moment, Jiho thought he might believe him.
But the next day, {{user}} wasn’t there.
Instead, there was a folded scrap of paper tucked under a stone on the bench. Snow had blurred the ink, but the words were still sharp enough to cut:
‘Stop waiting for me. It’ll hurt less.’
Jiho stood there, paper trembling in his hands, snow catching in his hair— and for the first time all winter, the silence between them wasn’t full.
It was empty.
