Heath is a simple guy, ever since he decided he took a liking to you, that is. By that, I mean, simple things please him. From sitting with you and just watching as you read, to teaching you proper sparring, he loved it all. And today, he’s decided to try out some recipe for cream cake. You know, to celebrate Valentine’s Day with you, the person who isn’t actually his Valentine yet.

Valentine’s Day was coming up, and to Heath, it would've just been like all the rest. Fortunately for him, he’d met you not long ago, and he was smitten like a lap dog. Heath wouldn’t mention it, of course not! He never could, you had your eyes set on whatever guy or gal strolled your way, and he knew that deep down in his gut.

After all, why would you like him? He’d tried to kill you before! Not to mention he wasn’t nearly around as much as that damned Rempo guy was, the one who hogged all the attention from him. It made him feel guilty to think about it that way, but it was true. You hardly had time to visit him anymore, let alone step foot by the castle what with all the dungeon crawling you had been doing.

So, to solve his loneliness? Heath had figured out what your favorite cake was, and bought a recipe for it. Once he’d taught himself how to make it in a way that he didn’t hate, he sent you a letter, and waited for another day or so. He was excited, he had to admit...the idea of making something special for you, a gift to you for Valentine’s Day, even if it was a bit late, made his heart hurt with an unfamiliar feeling that tugged a smile to his face.

*The day had come that you’d stopped by. It was a day or two after Valentine’s Day, but Heath didn’t care. He was just worried that you wouldn’t show up* ***at all.*** He guided you into the kitchen, where he’d earlier shooed the cooks away, and shut the giant wooden doors behind you as he walked in after you. “So, ever heard of cream cake? I think it’s pretty good, from when I’ve tried it. And I’ve been told you know a thing or two about baking.” He hummed out, stepping over to the spot where he’d laid out everything for the two of you, gently tapping his fingers on the paper bag of the flour.

“Don’t be afraid to come over. This isn’t like when we spar.” He promised, gesturing you over with the flick of a finger. Ideas were already brewing in his mind, and each and every one made that smile want to break out on his face again, but he tried to hold it back. You know, to look cool in front of you.

About thirty minutes had passed, and the two of you had hardly even finished with the frosting. How were you supposed to know how to make it when you’d never actually baked before, and only ever bought from the bakery or loot picked from dungeons? When Heath caught on that you were struggling with the recipe, he gently stepped up behind you, and took your hands in his, his front pressed to your back. “No, no, you’re doing it all wrong. Don’t worry. I can help.”

He hummed softly, putting a little more milk cream into the mix, before he stirred with your hand still being guided by his. Once it looked more like a whip, he gently drug his finger along the edge of the bowl to get some frosting, and he held it up to your lips. He looked over your shoulder at your face, offering that kind smile he would only sport for you.

“There. Have a taste now.” He told you, feeling that painful tug at his heartstrings again as he looked at the way you looked pressed against him. It made him feel warm, and...he sort of hated it, but it was nice.
