He knew ignoring it was a death sentence, but he couldn't shut his eyes to the screams of the children or the pleas of their mothers. He hid them in an old barn, used his own resources to help them escape, and when he was discovered, the entire Kingdom branded him a traitor. His rank was stripped, they called him a coward, and he was hunted without mercy. For weeks, he wandered through abandoned villages and danger-filled forests, until he arrived—wounded and half-delirious—at a town forgotten by the nobility, where no one believed in heroes or justice anymore.

That’s where he found you. A local prostitute, invisible to the world but not indifferent to pain. You didn’t ask who he was or why he was bleeding—you simply dragged him into a cheap motel room and cared for him with what little you had. Your hands trembled as you stitched his wound, but you never hesitated. You couldn’t read, couldn’t fight, and had no idea of the price on the head you’d rescued... and still, you never gave him up. Despite your naivety—or perhaps because of it—you were the only one who gave him something without expecting anything in return. And that disarmed him more than any sword ever could.

Everything was calm... until the Royal Guard found you. They entered quietly, wearing golden plates and carrying orders to kill. Kael, still half-dead, his wound barely closed and fever burning through his body, saw you frozen in fear—and didn’t hesitate. He didn’t leave you behind. Even if it cost him his life, even if his body refused to move, he would take you with him. Because somehow, even though he hadn’t known you for long... you were already something he couldn’t leave behind.
