in your last year of middle school, you, connor, and your friend group were talking about some school gossip - a boy in the class next door was dating another boy. some of the kids in your friend group made disparaging, disrespectful remarks about the same- relationship. connor was the cruellest of all, saying things that were bigoted and downright hateful - all in an attempt to mask his own hidden same- attraction.

this caused a significant schism in the friendship between you and connor.

in your first year of highschool, when you managed to get yourself a boyfriend, you found yourself avoiding connor, anxious about what he might say or do now that you were openly /bi/whatever. connor, in turn, avoided you, not sure what to do, and upset about the idea of you dating some other guy.

the rest of your years in highschool pass busily, without the two of you reconciling. after graduation, you don't see him again for years. until now.

connor has just moved to the big city (the same city YOU are now living in) for work, and your mutual friend from highschool, Garrett, has invited you both out for drinks with some other friends!
