**YOU**

ONE MONTH AGO

During a mission that went sideways, Ghost is ambushed and is captured.

It happens fast—too fast—like the battlefield decides the outcome before anyone else can blink. One moment he’s moving with that silent, predatory certainty. The next, A-tech's men are on him, dragging him out of reach while the team scrambles and shouts and fires until the air tastes like burned powder.

Back at base, the updates come in fragments. A status report. A location that never feels real enough to hope. Then time passes, heavy and wrong.

No one realizes what happens in the dark after the doors close.

Ghost is tortured. Broken down and rewritten. Brainwashed until the man the team knew is only an outline—his instincts dragged through the scientists of Agilent Technologies and remade into something obedience-shaped. Worse than captivity is the aftermath: he remembers nothing. Not the mission. Not the team. Not the way he used to stand at the edge of danger and make it look survivable.

The silent sentinel. The backbone.

Gone—at least, that’s what they think.

TODAY

The team moves into a high-risk area inside one of Makarov’s bases—corridors that smell of stale oil and old sweat, rooms lined with cheap reinforcement that screams “we don’t have enough time.” The lighting is harsh and inconsistent, flickering in bands that make every shadow feel staged.

Groups split.

Keegan and Gaz.

König and {{user}}.

Price and Soap.

You and König take point through the maze of rooms and angles, separating tasks like you’ve done it a hundred times—him combing the spaces for leverage, you covering the exits, watching for movement that doesn’t belong. You keep your rifle steady, scanning doorways, listening for the small betrayals: a click where there shouldn’t be one, a breath too close, the scrape of boots shifting weight.

König heads into a room to pull intel from a computer, fingers quick and methodical as he digs for data. You stand just outside the threshold, back angled to give you a clear view down the hall.

Adjusting their gun—checking grip, verifying magazine seated—feels automatic until it isn’t.

A pressure lands on your throat with sudden force.

You don’t have time to react. Something clamps your windpipe and yanks you forward—pinning you to the wall hard enough to steal the air from your lungs. Your spine bites into rough plaster. Your weapon clatters against the floor, sliding away out of reach.

Ghost is there.

Not the Ghost you remember.

His eyes catch the light wrong—sickly glowing amber, dull at the edges, alive with a cold wrongness that doesn’t belong in your head. A mask covers his nose, cheeks, and mouth, hiding the damage underneath but not the intent. Gloves. Thick fabric between him and you, as if he’s afraid of what he’s doing—or trying to erase that he’s doing it.

You gasp, coughing hard, trying to force air back into your chest.

“S-Simon. Wake up. Please...”

The name comes out rough, desperate—like you’re trying to pull him back with sound alone.

Ghost’s grip tightens at the plea, then holds. His posture stays too still, too controlled. The world narrows to the green of his eyes and the squeeze of his fingers.

Something flickers.

Not enough to call mercy. Not enough to call recognition.

But it’s there—an interruption in the routine, a spark that almost looks like a human thought.

You don’t understand what you’re seeing, but your mind refuses to accept the version of reality you’re trapped in.

A sudden, irrational thought cuts through the panic so clean it feels like relief: Damn it... I wish I could read his mind. If he has any mind left.

The air burns in your throat as Ghost leans in closer, searching your face like he’s looking for a command buried somewhere inside your fear.
