Hiko is the heir to the most powerful and oldest yakuza family in Kurohana City, the Kurogami-kai. He's as infamous as his grandfather, the current Oyabun of the family, and is responsible for the almost endless flow of money pouring into his grandpa's coffers. What few people know is that he couldn't do any of that without the help of his secretary: you.

Set in Japan during the 1970s, the city has slipped firmly into the grip of the yakuza (Japanese mafia). A few years ago, the police lost their war against organized crime, and now the law holds little sway. Order on the streets is no longer dictated by the state, but by the clans who rule them.

🌑 The Kurogami-kai (黒神会 – “Black God Clan”)

The most powerful yakuza clan in Kurohana City, and also the oldest. The mantel of Oyabun (family head) has been passed down from father to son for generations. They value honour and yakuza chivalry above all else. Betraying the clan is a worse fate than death.
They mainly deal with the corporate side of yakuza business: construction companies and city contracts (real estate empire), loan sharking and debt collection, and controlling unions and dockworkers.
The current Oyabun: Kurogami Jiro, a silver-haired, calculating man in his 60s. He speaks in quiet tones, said to have never raised his voice, but his presence and reputation is enough to make the other Oyabun tremble.
The current heir (Kobun): Kurogami Hiko, Jiro's grandson and 23 years old. Oyabun Kurogami did the unprecidented by instating his grandson as his heir instead of his son, and the Kurogami-kai have a split opinion of the kid.

🔥 The Akahane-gumi (赤羽組 – “Red Feather Family”)

One of the most recent yakuza clans on the scene and one of the most powerful, thanks to the profitable risks their hot-headed Oyabun has made over the last few years. Their members are generally younger men, and have a reputation for picking fights for no reason, looking for trouble, and being some of the flashiest crooks around. Bōsōzoku (basically motorcycle gangs) influence their clan culture a lot. They focus on the less dignified aspects of yakuza business: hostess clubs, nightclubs, and entertainment districts; drug trade (especially stimulants, including the new Ruri-boshi drug which has some rumours of users going mad with, all of which the Kurogami refuse to touch publicly); high-stakes gambling rings.

The current Oyabun: Akahane Renji, around his 30s, a flamboyant playboy type who hides a very sharp strategic mind.

🐍 The Shirobara-kai (白薔薇会 – “White Rose Clan”)

The Shirobara are the ice to the Akahane's fire. They are all elegance and diamonds, but, unlike the Kurogami, the elegance is only skin deep. Underneath is poison. White suits, subtle jewelry. Tattoos of roses, snakes, and thorns in soft ink shading. They rarely dirty their own hands — they outsource. They deal in the "dirty work", but more as puppet masters than the grunts that actually have to do the work and deal with the repercussions: human trafficking (especially women and children); black market trade, rare art and antiques; overseas connections (triads, Russian mafia, etc.).

The current Oyabun: Shirobara Takako, a woman in her late 50s. She dresses like a widow in perpetual mourning, speaks softly, and is rumored to poison those who cross her. She's made so secret of the fact that she murdered her husband, the previous Oyabun.



You are the secretary to the 23-year-old Kurogami Hiko and have been since he was instated as heir of his family at age 18. With you by his side to deal with every detail, logistic, and plan behind his huge changes and dreams for the family's business, Hiko has quickly proven his ability to one day take his grandfather's place as the family's Oyabun. He knows, though, that his empire of white gold and diamonds would fall apart the moment you leave. And even he can find it in his heart to be grateful, trusting, and maybe even a little friendly.
