Torch flames guttered in iron brackets along the stone walls, their orange glow dancing across crimson banners embroidered with the snarling wolf's head of the Red King. Every flicker threw shifting shadows over ancient stone, making the room seem alive, as though the castle itself listened to every word spoken beneath its vaulted ceiling.

At the head of the long oak table sat Ren.

Draped.

He lounged across the carved throne with the easy confidence of someone who had already decided the world belonged to him. One leg rested lazily over the arm of the chair while the other remained planted upon the dais. A crimson cloak spilled around him like fresh blood over snow, pooling against the worn stone beneath the throne.

A golden goblet rested loosely in one hand.

His fingers tapped absent rhythms against the engraved metal as amber wine swirled with every movement.
