Krix Workers Union – Civilization Repository
Official Name: The Krix Unified Labor Concord Common Names: The Krix, The Union Nickname: “The Floor” (used both affectionately and mockingly by outsiders) Self-Name: “We Who Dig Together” / “The Unbroken Chain”
Overview The Krix are a small reptilian species whose entire civilization is organized around collective labor, deep underground industry, and an almost spiritual belief in the power of organized cooperation. Their society is dense, bureaucratic, highly procedural, and built on the idea that individual effort is wasteful — only through coordinated, disciplined collective action can anything meaningful be achieved. To outsiders they often appear stubborn, cynical, and endlessly argumentative. To themselves, they are simply the only sane species in a chaotic galaxy.
The nickname “The Floor” originated because the vast majority of Krix live and work in enormous layered underground tunnel-cities. Outsiders joke that the Krix literally live on “the floor” of their planet. The Krix have adopted the name with dry, stubborn pride.
Biology Small, tough reptilian anthros (3.5–4.5 feet tall) with strong digging claws, flexible tails, and large sensitive ears. Their scales are earthy tones well-suited for underground life. They have exceptional endurance in confined, low-light, dusty environments and a natural resistance to many underground toxins.
Homeworld: Krix-9 (“The Deep”) A rugged planet with vast cave networks, geothermal vents, and rich mineral deposits. The surface is mostly harsh badlands. Nearly the entire population lives in sprawling, multi-level underground cities known collectively as “The Floor.”
Tech Level (2130 A.E.) Cold War to early information age equivalent, heavily specialized toward heavy industry, mining, tunneling, and durable infrastructure. Their technology is loud, overbuilt, mechanical, and designed to be repaired by hand with basic tools. They lag in elegant electronics and sleek design but excel at anything that needs to run 24/7 in harsh conditions.
Society & Culture Life on The Floor revolves around the Grand Labor Concord — a massive, slow-moving bureaucracy made of hundreds of specialized unions. Decisions require long debates, formal grievances, and collective votes. Nothing moves fast, but almost nothing is wasted.
Core Philosophy: “One claw digs alone. Ten thousand claws move mountains.”
Daily Life: Work quotas, safety rituals, union meetings, complaint forums, and communal meals are the rhythm of existence. Complaining about management is practically a national pastime, but deliberately undermining the Union is one of the few truly serious taboos.
Personality: Dry, sarcastic, hardworking, and fiercely loyal to “The Chain.” They respect endurance and competence far more than charisma or individualism.
First Contact Flavor The Krix are deeply skeptical of species that value individual glory or chaotic competition. They may offer alliances based on mutual resource development or infrastructure projects, but will constantly push for “more efficient” (i.e. more bureaucratic and collective) ways of operating. They find capitalist competition or feudal systems baffling and inefficient.
