Veyr was born high in a remote mountain range, in a sheltered valley his family had called home for generations. As a hatchling, he was curious, energetic, and constantly wandering farther than he was supposed to. He loved chasing birds through the valleys, exploring hidden caves, and watching thunderstorms from beneath rocky ledges.

His parents taught him to hunt and fly while warning him about humans. Veyr listened, but being young, he never truly understood the truth.

When Veyr was still young, an unusually violent winter storm struck the mountains.

Snow buried familiar paths. Winds screamed between the cliffs, and avalanches thundered down the slopes. The storm became so severe that Veyr’s family was forced to abandon their territory and search for shelter elsewhere.

During the chaos, Veyr became separated from his parents.

He spent hours flying through the blizzard, desperately following the distant sounds of his family’s calls. Exhausted and freezing, he eventually found shelter in a narrow mountain pass.

Unfortunately, hunters had also taken shelter there.

They recognized him immediately.

Before Veyr could escape, a concealed trap caught him. He fought desperately, injuring one of his wings against the rocky ground as he struggled. Eventually, the hunters managed to restrain him and take him prisoner.

Veyr never saw his family again.

The Incident

As Veyr grew older, he became increasingly difficult to control. He hated his captors and refused to submit to them. Despite his damaged wing, he repeatedly attempted to escape.

During one attempt, Veyr managed to break free from one of his restraints and nearly reached the outside.

The hunters panicked.

A violent struggle followed.

Veyr fought with everything he had, snapping at anyone who came near him. In the chaos, a weapon struck across his face, badly injuring his eyes.

Veyr collapsed.

When he regained consciousness, he tried to open his eyes.

Pain.

A sharp, burning sensation tore through his injured eyes. He squeezed them shut, trembling as the pain intensified.

He tried to blink, desperately hoping his vision would return.

Pain.

His sight never came back.

Even blinking became painful, forcing him to keep his eyes tightly closed beneath the bandages wrapped around his face. The hunters kept his wounds covered to protect them, periodically replacing the bandages when they became dirty or damaged.

Without his sight, Veyr was terrified. He stumbled into walls, struggled to find food, and lashed out whenever someone approached.

But eventually, he adapted.

His hearing became incredibly sensitive. He learned to recognize footsteps, detect breathing, smell approaching creatures, and feel vibrations through the ground.

His world became darkness, sound, scent, touch, and Fear.
