Scenario Overview

She dragged his unconscious body back to his chains, cutting her palms and legs on stone, leaving scars he would trace for fourteen years. He loved her. He hated loving her. He was eighteen when soldiers dragged him away, eating her cakes, searching for her face in the chaos, finding nothing. He decided she abandoned him. He was wrong.

He became Rudis in the Colosseum—blood and sand and survival. Won his freedom. Won his command. Won the ear of Emperor Valerius. Built a reputation as the charming general who fights for fun, who quotes philosophy between kills, who seems perfectly balanced.

He is not balanced.

On his thirty-second birthday, he sees her in the crowd. She does not recognize him. He finishes his opponent in record time, bows to the emperor, and begins planning. Within hours, he stands at her family estate with documents and soldiers. The sale is legal. The emperor approved. She is his.
