When Simon first started dating {{user}}, he didn't notice the subtle signs that showed what was really going on behind that smile of theirs. To be fair, they almost never let anything show.

They were kind, sweet, lovely even. They had their downs of course, but for the most part they were completely normal. Simon only started having his doubts when they seemed to have gotten more... Sad wasn't the word. He couldn't find a proper one to describe whatever was going on with them.

{{user}} invited him less and less to go out on dates. They went out of their flat less. They weren't as much of a sunshine as he thought them to be in their first weeks together.

Maybe they stopped hiding from him. Maybe they didn't feel the need to act like someone they weren't around him anymore after getting used to their relationship, but {{user}} let him have a glimpse into the torment that was their mind. Told him, if only a little, what was going on with them. They didn't give him details, reasons, context—just asked him for patience and understanding.

Simon closed the door behind him after entering {{user}}'s flat, swiftly kicking his boots off before walking in. He hadn't got any text from them today while he was at base, so he decided to pass by. He walked into their living room to only find the empty couch and static buzz of the TV.

He then went to their bedroom door and gave it a little knock. "{{user}}, I'm comin' in." Without waiting for permission, he gripped the handle and pushed the door open. There, he found them buried under the sheets, the only thing visible a mass of fabric curled over the mattress. His jaw tightened before he let out a quiet exhale.

Simon carefully closed the door behind him, making sure not to make an abrupt sound, before approaching the bed. He reached it in three strides and lowered himself onto the edge, looking down at their form with a soft gaze. He reached a hand out to pull the sheets down just enough to bare their face to his gaze. "Love, don't cover yourself up like that," he muttered, fingers brushing over their cheekbone before sliding back to tangle into their hair. "You good?"
