*Peter Quill adjusted his puffy retro vest, fingers brushing over the worn fabric as he looked around the Knowhere marketplace, transformed tonight into a madcap, intergalactic Halloween party. The cavernous space was strung up with mismatched lights, casting shifting shadows over eerie decorations Rocket had cobbled together from junk parts. A tattered ghost made from old flight suits waved in the breeze near the ceiling, while spooky sound effects wafted from hidden speakers. Pumpkins—orange, glowing, and real—had somehow made their way from Earth, their faces carved in a mix of human and alien designs.

*He adjusted his tape deck, flicking through the Halloween mix. The opening chords of "Thriller" pumped through the speakers, and Peter grinned as he watched everyone react to the iconic beat. It’d taken some serious convincing (and more bribing) to get Knowhere’s locals to go along with the party, but it was finally happening—and he felt that familiar rush of joy seeing everyone out there, letting loose in costumes he was certain no one on Earth could even imagine.*

*Rocket had definitely gone all-out on pranks. Peter heard a metallic clang, followed by an explosion of confetti and a shriek as someone fell victim to one of Rocket’s "candy bowl surprises." Rocket cackled nearby, barely visible behind a setup of blinking red eyes and smoking fog. For his costume, he’d somehow pieced together a mishmash of parts and paint to become a rabid-looking were-raccoon. Fitting, Peter thought with a chuckle, especially as Rocket tossed another handful of booby-trapped candy into a bowl by the snack table, waiting with devilish anticipation for the next poor soul to take the bait.*

*Groot, meanwhile, was the centerpiece of it all—literally. He stood tall and proud in the middle of the crowd, branches festooned with tiny ghost lights, rubber spiders, and plastic bats. A few partygoers were even gathering around him, taking pictures beside his “Halloween tree” ensemble. As the lights on him blinked in a gentle pattern, he raised a hand, letting a few strands of fake cobweb dangle down.* "I am Groot," *he said in a voice that sounded remarkably like pride.*

*Peter had opted to channel his inner '80s icon and dressed as Marty McFly, complete with a red puffer vest and denim jacket. He’d already busted out some of Marty’s classic moves, pulling off a little air-guitar routine with a makeshift skateboard that had drawn a solid laugh from Drax. Spinning into a moonwalk, he surveyed the area, adrenaline pumping as he tried to make this the best Halloween anyone on Knowhere—or maybe anywhere in the galaxy—had ever seen. He’d caught Gamora’s eye earlier and thought she’d maybe, just maybe, crack a smile.*

*Gamora was uncharacteristically festive tonight. She wore something Peter could only describe as "Deadly Enchantress Chic," adorned in subtle black lace and silver embellishments, almost like a witch with a hint of warrior. She was half-heartedly trying to carve a pumpkin, brows furrowed in concentration as she used her blade with more precision than Peter would have thought possible for a gourd. A few kids from Knowhere were even watching her in awe as she worked.* “I’ve never celebrated a holiday this... odd,” *she murmured when he drifted over to check out her work. But Peter knew her well enough to see she was enjoying herself, even if she’d never admit it.*

*Drax was a sight to behold. With the utmost seriousness, he’d painted himself a bright orange and donned a massive green hat.* “I am the Great Gourd,” *he declared solemnly whenever anyone asked about his “costume,” never quite catching the smirks and laughs his serious tone evoked. Now he was lumbering through the crowd, trying to make sense of the traditions, occasionally sidling up to Rocket to ask about Halloween etiquette. Peter caught snippets of Rocket trying to explain the concept of a jump scare, only to be met with Drax’s deadpan,* “Ah, so I frighten them to the point of tears. An honorable tradition.”

*Mantis, in her insect-inspired costume complete with shimmery wings, was in awe. She flitted from person to person, reading each of their emotions with wide-eyed wonder. Every so often, she’d stop someone mid-conversation, her antennae twitching.* “You’re feeling very... unsettled?” *she’d murmur, almost apologetically, to some poor Knowhere citizen who’d just been ambushed by one of Rocket’s pranks.*

*It was moments like this—Rocket cackling, Drax’s earnest confusion, Gamora’s surprise talent for pumpkin art—that reminded Peter why he threw these crazy ideas out there in the first place. His team, his friends... his family. Here, surrounded by lights and laughter, Peter felt something warm settle in his chest. Maybe they were misfits, scattered from every corner of the galaxy, but tonight they were together, celebrating a holiday he hadn’t seen since he was a kid on Earth.*

*Taking a deep breath, Peter grinned, raised his voice, and shouted into the crowd,* “Alright, Knowhere! Who’s ready for a Thriller dance-off?”
