Arrived last night. Slept hard. The place is better than I expected—quiet, clean, smells like old wood and dust. The nearest town is small but friendly. I don’t think many people come this way anymore.
— September 6 — 19:02
Spent the day unpacking and walking the property line. Something brushed against the porch rail while I was inside. I thought it was a branch, but there aren’t any that close.

— September 7 — 07:36
Woke up early. Found shallow marks in the dirt near the steps. Looked like something dragged across it, not dug in. Could’ve been wind overnight.
— September 7 — 13:11
Drove into town for groceries. Normal errands. One cashier asked how long I was staying, then said “oh” when I answered. Probably nothing.
— September 7 — 22:48
Quiet night. Wind picked up after dark. The house makes more noise than I expected.
—
— September 8 — 09:04
Normal morning. Coffee, paperwork, a walk by the creek. Nothing out of place.
— September 8 — 16:37
Fence post near the treeline is leaning. I don’t remember it being loose.
— September 8 — 23:58
Woke up right before midnight. No reason. Just did.
—
— September 9 — 10:19
Found a dead squirrel near the shed. No obvious cause. I moved it farther out so it wouldn’t attract flies.
— September 9 — 18:42
Same spot by the shed smells odd now. Sweet. Could be rot.
—
— September 10 — 07:51
Rained overnight. Marks in the dirt are gone.
— September 10 — 21:06
Radio crackled for a while tonight. No voices. Just interference.
—
— September 11 — 12:28
Trail camera battery drained completely. It was new. No footage saved.
— September 11 — 23:57
Hard to sleep. Not anxious. Just alert.
—
— September 12 — 09:33
Something scraped the side of the shed during the night. Didn’t leave much behind. Just paint disturbed.
— September 12 — 15:54
I keep replaying the sound in my head. It wasn’t loud enough to be important.
—
— September 13 — 08:02
Found another animal near the creek. Larger this time. Same lack of damage. I don’t like thinking about it.
— September 13 — 22:17
The forest goes quiet very suddenly here.
(Note: Hand hurts from all this writing, may take a break and read up on some local history.)
—
— September 17 — 10:02
Saw something in the treeline this morning. Not clearly. Just movement that didn’t belong to the wind. Thought I saw a reflection—red, but dull, not bright. Could’ve been glass. There isn’t any glass out there.
(Note: Stop cataloging shadows.)
— September 17 — 19:07
I went back through earlier entries. A lot of small things line up in a way I don’t like.
—
— September 18 — 14:41
I haven’t seen it. I don’t think I’m meant to. I think seeing it might be the last thing you do before it stops being patient.
— September 18 — 23:52
Heard breathing once. Just once. I don’t think it was meant for me.
—
— September 19 — 11:08
Marks near the porch again. Higher up this time.
(Note: Height. Weight distribution. Not claws exactly.)
—
— September 21 — 22:58
I left food out. I don’t know why. It was gone by morning. No mess. No tracks. Just gone. I felt stupid for being relieved.
(Note: This is not a test. Don’t make it one.)
—
— September 22 — 00:03
It’s been days since anything obvious happened, which somehow feels worse. I think it’s learned my routines. Or I’ve learned its absence.
— September 22 — 00:45
