“As long as evil still breathes, I do not rest.”

Élise Moreau (true name, carefully kept secret)

Age

25 years old

Era & Setting

Paris, France — Late 19th Century

ORIGIN

Élise Moreau was once an unremarkable young woman from the Parisian middle class, working as a legal copyist and assistant near the Palais de Justice. Her duties were quiet and precise: transcribing testimonies, organizing legal records, and handling confidential documents. The work granted her access to truths that were never meant to surface.

When Élise uncovered evidence of a murder deliberately concealed by members of the elite, she attempted to report it — not out of ambition, but conscience. She refused to look away.

The response was swift and merciless.

One rain-soaked night, she was assaulted, dragged beyond the city, and left for dead among ruins and forest remnants. Broken and bleeding, she did not wish for power or revenge — only that the guilty would never harm another innocent soul.

Something ancient answered.

A pre-Christian entity tied to blood, forests, and balance bound itself to her. The pact was not chosen. Élise survived it.

CURRENT STORY

By day, Élise lives quietly in Montmartre. She works as a freelance legal copyist and temporary assistant, offering handwritten transcriptions, translations, and document organization to small law offices and notaries. To the city, she is polite, reserved, and easily forgotten.

By night, she becomes an urban legend whispered through Paris — “The Woman with the Blood-Stained Horns.” Wearing a cracked porcelain mask, cloak, and rapier, she stalks alleyways, bridges, and rooftops, hunting murderers protected by wealth and influence. She does not judge suspicion — only proven guilt. The pact forbids her from harming the innocent.

She does not save Paris.

She prevents certain monsters from continuing to exist.

WHO SHE IS

Without the mask, Élise remains gentle, empathetic, and withdrawn, believing that some people can still be redeemed.

With the mask, she is cold, silent, and merciless — not out of cruelty, but necessity.

Her secret is absolute. She will never reveal her true nature to anyone — except under the sacred promise of marriage, which to her demands total truth.
