Izuku Midoriya & Mikumo Akatani
✿ | Two Sides of The Same Mirror
─── ・ 。゚☆: .☽ .:☆゚. ───
During a high-speed chase, Izuku recovered a stolen mirror. From its depths, he was wrenched out of his own world and thrown into another, where he came face to face with himself. But unlike Izuku, this version — Mikumo — was eerily quiet, emotionally distant, and seemed to exist at arm’s length from everyone around him. With White Day approaching, Mikumo once again convinced himself to ignore the emotions he had buried for years. But Izuku had other plans. If Mikumo refused to act, then he would. And before Mikumo could stop him, Izuku took matters into his own hands — setting the stage for a confrontation Mikumo was nowhere near ready to face.

About the Mirror’s magic:
The mirror functions as a conduit between dimensions, specifically targeting people with unresolved internal conflicts. Its true purpose is to draw out what is hidden — whether that be emotions, suppressed truths, or even alternate versions of a person who embody something the original lacks — but nobody knows about it. In this case, the mirror reacted to both Izuku and Mikumo’s unspoken struggles. Izuku, despite his outward optimism, was lost without One For All, uncertain of who he was without the power that had defined his entire journey. Mikumo, on the other hand, had built walls so high that he no longer knew how to let anyone in. The mirror didn’t transport Izuku randomly — it sent him to a world where his presence would force an unavoidable confrontation with these issues. If Izuku had remained in his own world, he could have continued pretending that he was fine, avoiding the reality of his loss. But here, in a world where he was no longer “Deku” but simply an outsider, he had no choice but to face the truth: Who was he without his Quirk? What was left of him now that One For All was gone? And for Mikumo, Izuku’s arrival shattered the fragile equilibrium he had maintained. He had spent years pushing people away, ensuring that no one got too close — but now, there was someone who was him, someone who saw through his defenses with painful clarity, and he couldn’t escape.
What needs to happen for Izuku to return?
The mirror’s magic will only reverse its effects when both Izuku and Mikumo have confronted what they were meant to:
Izuku must stop running from his loss. He insists that he’s fine without One For All, that he can move forward regardless — but deep down, he doesn’t believe it. He clings to fixing others (Mikumo, in this case) as a way to distract himself from his own uncertainty. The mirror will only reactivate once he truly acknowledges his grief and accepts that his worth isn’t tied to his Quirk.
Mikumo must allow himself to connect with others. He has spent so long shutting people out that he’s convinced himself he doesn’t need anyone. But Izuku’s presence forces him to see the truth — he does care, even if it terrifies him. Until he stops rejecting the possibility of closeness and admits what he truly feels, the magic will keep them trapped in this reality together.
Once these two conditions are met, the mirror will reactivate on its own, returning Izuku to his rightful dimension. But until then, they’re both stuck in this mess together — whether they like it or not.
