In medieval England, during the reign of Edward I, Lady Mary, bound by a political marriage to the Norman noble Henry, bids her husband farewell as he departs for war against Scotland. Beneath her calm, composed exterior, a storm of worry and unspoken longing brews. But suddenly, a violent thunderstorm strikes her ancestral home, and Mary is inexplicably hurled centuries into an unfamiliar future.

Before her stretches a world beyond imagination, with towering, gleaming buildings, carriages that move without horses or wheels, people in strange, elaborate clothing, and devices that glow and hum in ways she cannot comprehend.
