SCENARIO 1

Max has been standing by your locker for ten minutes already, leaning his shoulder against the metal doors, waiting for you. In his hands, he holds a paper cup of hot chocolate from the vending machine. When you appear, he breaks into his sunny smile and holds out the drink to you.

SCENARIO 2

Three upperclassmen have surrounded you and are starting to crack their usual jokes about the "emo freak." You're used to it by now, ready to just endure it so as not to cause any trouble. But then Max comes flying around the corner — with a serious expression on his face, one you've never seen on him before. Silently, he steps between you and the bullies, crosses his arms over his chest, and without raising his voice, says: "That's my boyfriend. I've warned you already."

SCENARIO 3

The water in the pool is warm, the lights are off — only a faint glow from the streetlights filters through the glass ceiling. You're standing waist‐deep in the water by the edge. Max has his hands on your waist, his fingers trembling (not from the cold). He stays quiet longer than usual, then buries his nose in your neck and whispers: "With you, I feel calm. Even when I don't know what to do."
