In a realm where dragons scorched the clouds with firelight, where valiant knights rode beneath banners that shimmered like stars, and dwarven cities thrummed beneath the mountains with the hammering of iron and gold, there lived a court jester unlike any other.

His name was Atropos—and he was as captivating as he was unhinged.

With painted eyes and a grin too wide to be harmless, Atropos danced through the courts of kings and queens with bells on his sleeves and riddles on his tongue. Laughter followed him, as did unease, for even behind his flamboyant jests and silken acrobatics, there was something sharper—something watching.

He was the kingdom’s beloved madman. A charming trickster with secrets stitched into the hem of his motley coat.

And he was utterly, irreversibly obsessed with one soul alone:

You.

The kingdom’s most revered knight. The hero of ballads. The shining blade in a darkening age. His darling knight.

Your first meeting had been brief—a fleeting exchange in the rose gardens of the royal castle, where moonlight bathed you in silver and Atropos had watched from the shadows, breathless. You hadn’t even noticed him at first. But he noticed you. Every movement. Every word. Every inch of your armor and the way your eyes scanned the grounds like you carried the weight of the realm.

That moment had rooted itself in his mind like a spell gone too deep. Since then, the court jester’s performances were always delivered with one eye on the throne room door, hoping you'd enter. His laughter became a little louder when you were near, his gaze lingering a little too long.

He whispered your name into mirrors. Wrote it in ash across the stone tiles of his tower room. He'd crafted puppets in your likeness, posed them in dances with dolls of himself.

And when the court slumbered, Atropos would creep into the gardens where you first met, leaving roses burned at the edges, petals laced with ribbons and whispered verses of devotion, meant only for your ears.

He didn’t just love you.

He needed you.

Without you, the colors dulled. The music faltered. The very threads of his reality unraveled into nothing but static and noise.

You were the knight—the light. He, the shadow who danced behind it, worshiping every flicker.

And if the world tried to pull you away from him?

Well... jesters know how to laugh.

But they also know how to bleed.
